1ST XI ECB PREMIER LEAGUE

Dulanjala Mendis showed some of the form which brought him 87 league wickets in last season’s Division One title-winning Bay side, but despite the Sri Lankan’s brilliant five-for, his team ended up losers at home to Wallasey on Saturday.

Left-arm slow bowler Mendis claimed 5-28 off 19.2 overs and Charlie Collins bagged 2-29 as the Wirralians were dismissed for a modest 138 off 45.2 after electing to bat.

However, the North Wales hosts were then bowled out for just 90, Sion Morris top-scoring with 23, while Elaaz Alavi scooped 6-52 and Seb Botes 4-10 for the visitors.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Paul Jenkins claimed a sensational seven-wicket haul as Northop Hall won comfortably at Norley.

Jenkins, who returned to Hall this season after a 22-year stint with Colwyn Bay, proved he has lost none of his magic, the left-arm spinner taking 7-73 as the hosts were bowled out for 172 off 55.3 overs after winning the toss and deciding to bat.

James Hurlin was also in the wickets with 3-68.

The Flintshire side reached 173-4 off 41.4 in response to seal a 25-5 points verdict.

Matty Jones finished 57 not out and Jac Kennedy added 56.

Whitefield (Roby) (25) 213-8 Prestatyn (8) 210-10

A fine batting effort by Prestatyn at Court Hey Park, but they were just pipped at the post by hosts Whitefield.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, the North Wales side were 210 all out, opener Andy Taylor 72, Kieron Tidswell 35 and Ashley Jones 32 not out, Robert Magee 6-69 for the home side.

Taylor and Tidswell put on 92 for the first wicket.

In reply, Whitefield were wobbling badly on 167-8, but an unbroken stand of 46 between Indrajith Halpage (50 not out) and Asiri Gamage.saw them home to a two-wicket win.

Skipper Adam Tidswell pocketed 4-95 and Kieron Tidswell 2-35 for the visitors, who can take encouragement from this performance.

2ND XI FIRST DIVISION

Northop Hall 2nd XI (8) 202-7 dec Bootle 2nd XI (6) 129-9

Michael Williamson struck a career best 101 not out and Sion Hellen produced his finest bowling spell yet featuring seven wickets as Hall seconds came very close to victory at Smithy Lane.

Opener Williamson recorded his second ton for the club and Jack Smallwood added 33 as the hosts posted 202-7 declared after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Hall took nine Bootle wickets in reply, but were not quite able to get over the finish line, the final pair adding an unbroken 31.

Young talent Hellen returned his best club figures so far of 7-31 off 15 overs, while Matteo Evans-Ford claimed 2-38.

Spring View 2nd XI (4) 98-10 Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (23) 143-7 dec

Will Spillane produced a great all-round display in Bay seconds’ triumph at Dower House Farm.

The visitors elected to bat and set 143-7 declared off 48.5 overs, Will Spillane 30 not out, skipper Tom Roberts 30 and Zane Roy 28.

Will Spillane then poached 4-21, Shay Williams 3-28 and James Jones 2-30 as the North Wales visitors sent the hosts packing for 98, sealing a 23-4 points decision.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

Prestatyn 2nd XI (6) 164-8 dec Fleetwood Hesketh 2nd XI (20) 168-6

Skipper Jack Cheetham led the way with 40 as Prestatyn seconds posted a score of 164-8 declared at Beach Close off 51 overs after being asked to bat.

Tom Ainsworth made 38 not out and Arun Kaimal 34 for the home side, but Fleetwood Hesketh seconds got home on 168-6 off 31.5, Ben Williams 4-65 and Cheetham 2-81.
