Ben Beaver’s 49 not out was the chief highlight in a decent batting performance from Wales NC North in Sunday’s friendly defeat against Staffs at St Asa[h.

Beaver, who joined Cheshire County League club Neston this season, shared in a seventh-wicket stand of 59 with St Asaph’s Dan Evans (30) as Wales North made it to 233-7 off 50 overs after winning the toss and deciding to bat.

Earlier, Northop Hall’s Jac Kennedy made 32, skipper William Ryan 29, Bangor’s Nathanael Scott 25 and Mathew Ryan 22 for the hosts, Matthew Morris bagging 3-39 for Staffs.

In reply, the visitors got home on 235-5 off 43.1 overs, opener Morris best with 83 not out, Brymbo’s Sam Aplin collecting 2-44 for the home team.
