Anthony Weaver returns to Rhydymwyn as manager

Anthony Weaver has rejoined Rhydymwyn FC as first team manager.

Weaver had a previous successful spell as Rhyd boss. Working alongside current Connah’s Quay Nomads women’s team manager Jordan Parry, the pair led Rhydymwyn into the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Premier Division in 2019/20.

Weaver took over as Conwy Borough manager in September 2022, replacing Stuart Howson.

The club was relegated from the Cymru North at the end of 2022-23. Weaver stayed on as player-manager as Boro dropped into Ardal North West, but he stepped down at the end of 2023-24.

This season, the 41-year-old has been playing for Aston Park Rangers in the North East Wales Championship Division, scoring an impressive 16 goals in 19 appearances.

Anthony’s son, William, also plays for the team.

Anthony Weaver is also an outstanding youth coach. His impressive CV includes head of youth phase and academy coach at Connah’s Quay Nomads, coach at the Liverpool FC International Academy and a UEFA A and Elite Youth licence.

Nomads Academy U15s were crowned FA Wales Academy Northern champions under Weaver and James Duff in 2023-24.

Rhydymwyn are now delighted to have Weaver back on board, having just missed out on the automatic promotion places in the tier 5 North East Wales League Championship this season.

“Anthony has a deep-rooted passion for the club and has spoken openly about his feeling of “unfinished business” — a reflection of his commitment to restoring success on and off the pitch,” said a club statement.

“We are also pleased to confirm that Anthony will be joined by James Duff, who will take on the role of Assistant Manager, and Stewart Tarran, who joins the coaching team. Both James and Stewart are highly respected within the football community and share a strong connection with the club, bringing with them a wealth of experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm.

“Anthony’s previous time with the club saw significant achievements, including ground improvements, navigating the challenges of lockdowns, and earning promotion into the inaugural Ardal Tier 3 league — competing strongly against clubs now established at Tier 2 level. His return signals a clear intent to build on that legacy and push the club forward once again.”
