CATCH-UP: North East Wales League – Mynydd Isa and Broughton crowned champions

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23
Premier Division

Penyffordd Lions 1 Lex XI 2
Premier runners-up Lex finished their campaign on a high note with a narrow win at Penyffordd.
Premier top-scorer Harry Massey provided both goals for Lex in the second half, Matthew Worrall supplying a pair of assists.
Massey’s 22 league goals for the Lawmen make him the No1 hitman in the top division for 2024-25 – and he’s netted a superb 34 times in all competitions.
Gareth Higgins handed Lions a seventh-minute lead on Wednesday night, but the visitors had the league’s best marksman in their ranks to turn the tables.
TUESDAY, APRIL 22
Championship Division

Holywell United 3 Overton Recreation 2
Matthew Mullarkey’s 91st minute strike clinched the points for Holywell United.
The hosts trailed 2-0 to goals from Harrison Plumb and Peter Thedens, but Owen Marley pulled one back before half time.
It remained 2-1 until Leo Finnan levelled on 85 minutes before Mullarkey provided the crowning moment.
Rhydymwyn 6 Deeside Dragons 3
Ryan Carrington and Kallum Pierce netted two apiece for Rhyd, captain Connor Davies and Thomas Chamberlain adding singles, Joshua Radford hitting back with a hat-trick for the Dragons, who were right in it until the closing stages.
CPD Sychdyn United 2 Cefn Druids 0
Linden Puckey and sub Aaron North produced the second-half goals which banked another win for second-place Sychdyn.
The sides went in at half time level, Ross Walker going close with two long range efforts for the hosts.
The deadlock was broken when Puckey went through on goal around the hour mark, the keeper parried his first strike back into his path and he didn’t mess around with the follow up smashing it into the net.
To put the match to bed it was the two substitutes who connected, Ryan Walters finding North in the box who finished coolly from close range.
Jac Robins was awarded man of the match for an energetic performance all over the pitch
Reserve Division Group B 3rd round
Lex Reserves 2 Penyffordd Lions Reserves 1
Levi Howat’s double secured the points for the Law, Jason Towey responding for Penyffordd in a game where all the goals came in the first half.

Lex XI 5 Greenfield 0
Five of the best from Lex, Matthew Worrall and sub Kian Davies scoring two apiece with Cameron Thomas also on target.
Mynydd Isa 4 Castell Alun Colts 0
The title was clinched in style by Mynydd Isa as Sam Wainwright (2, 1 pen), Kieran Jones and Nathan Mendoza supplied the goals in a 4-0 victory at an emotional Argoed.
The club’s success was reported in depth by Grassroots North Wales at the weekend.
Penyffordd Lions 2 Saltney Town 1
Goals from Owen Edwards and Alister Randles clinched the points for Penyffordd, who had Callum Webber red-carded on 67 minutes with the score at 0-0.
John James King was the Saltney marksman.
Rhostyllen 1 Coedpoeth United 1
Jack Brindley’s 92nd minute penalty rescued a point for Rhostyllen after Joshua Jones struck first for Coedpoeth with 47 on the clock.
Championship Division
Broughton United 7 CPD Yr Wyddgrug 0
Three days before being crowned champions after Deeside United’s resignation led to a table restructure, Broughton showed why they led the division with a seven-goal thrashing of Yr Wyddgrug.
Jayden Evans moved back to the summit of the top scorers chart, bagging 4 on the day.
Luke Muia grabbed a brace, whilst Nath Swann-Jones rounded off the scoring.
Seven goals and 7 different providers – Jake Selvester, Tom Beacher, Jayden Evans, Luke Muia, Harrison Robson, Jake Jones and Jake Molyneux all getting an assist.
Aston Park Rangers 2 Holywell United 2
Captain Anthony Weaver and Mason Lowery netted for Aston Park, but Owen Marley and Shea Harding hit back to earn United a point.
CPD Cei Connah 1 Bellevue 3
Great win for Bellevue – just their third of the season and first on their travels.
Nigel Guramatunhu, Aaron Lennon and a Luke Williams own goal delivered the spoils for the Wrexham side, sub Jay Coppack on the mark for Cei Connah.
Home player Luke Green was sent off on 85 minutes for a second yellow.
Deeside Dragons 1 Cefn Druids 4
Two goals in either half secured Druids all three points on the road.
James Williams gave the hosts the lead on 10 minutes before a Lee Price penalty after 18 doubled the advantage.
Lewis Littler grabbed his sixth goal in the last three games from the spot to halve the deficit before the break.
Williams scored his second moments into the second half before Blake Parry rounded out the scoring five minutes later.
Johnstown YFC 3 Acton 8
Sam Giles was a five-goal hero for visitors Acton, Andrew Bithell, Ethan Callaghan and Liam Davies also on the scoresheet.
Rowan Birch (2) and Ryan Hanmer responded for the hosts.
Rhydymwyn 10 Skippy 2
Double-figures for Rhyd, Ryan Carrington nabbing four, Kallum Pierce a treble, Craig Worthington and Dylan Roberts sharing the rest.
Scott Ratcliffe pocketed both for Skippy.
CPD Sychdyn United 2 Brymbo 1
Harri Mitchell and Jordan Walker were on target for winners Sychdyn, sub Connor Gorman for the visitors.
Reserve Division Group B third round
Brymbo Reserves 2 Penyffordd Lions Reserves 3
Captain Paul Jones (2) and a Benjamin Ravenscroft own goal ensured Lions took the win, Evan Davies and Sam Wall running the Steelmen close.
Ravenscroft’s unfortunate OG came in the 90th minute.
Castell Alun Colts Reserves 3 FC Queen’s Park Reserves 2
Robert Parcesepe (2) and Jamie Hardy were the Casty goal heroes, Harry Gregory and Michael Worsell on the mark for QP.
Greenfield Reserves 5 Lex Reserves 0
Jack Gilmore’s hat-trick helped Greenfield romp to a 5-0 success, Ryan Jones and Dylan Radcliffe with their other goals.
