Massive well done Mynydd Isa – 2024-25 North East Wales League Premier champions!

Mynydd Isa are the 2024-25 North East Wales League Premier Division champions!
The village club which has steadily grown in stature over recent seasons reached a major peak when they sealed the Tier 4 title with a 4-0 home win over Castell Alun Colts on Saturday.
Last season Isa gave their fans a taste of things to come when they lifted the Mike Beech Trophy – the first piece of silverware for the first team since James Hollyoak reformed the senior side in 2016.
However, Saturday was the big one. A league triumph which gives the club the opportunity to progress to Tier 3.
In front of a crowd of approximately 150 people at the Argoed Sports Ground, Isa secured the treasured prize in style against a classy opposition.
The deadlock, and the tension around the ground, was finally broken after half an hour when captain Sam Wainwright’s inswinging flag-kick evaded everyone and nestled into the top corner.
Kieran Jones doubled the lead on the stroke of half time with a speculative effort from distance which the goalkeeper failed to keep out.
The skipper made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Jones was fouled in the box just after the restart.
Nathan Mendoza then finished the game off with a superb run and finish to make it 4-0.

The league winners trophy was presented by league manager Robyn Cooke in front of a jubilant crowd to captain Wainwright, who duly held it aloft to celebrate a first league title and promotion to Tier 3 since the club reformed nine years ago.
Liam Evans’ men have the Premier Cup final against Rhostyllen on the horizon as they target a historic double in an amazing season.

Manager Evans said: “I’m so proud of the lads for winning the league title for this amazing football club.
“They’ve been absolutely superb all year and have gone toe to toe in a tough Tier 4 league.
“The last few weeks have been full of twists and turns, but credit to the players and my coaching team (Chips, Holly and Beans) – we’ve stuck at it and got over the line in the end.
“It’s been a proper title race between Lex, Coedpoeth and ourselves and those two clubs have pushed us all the way. They’ve had brilliant seasons and we wish them nothing but the best going forward. Two top football clubs.
“I’m delighted and relieved it’s finally over and we can celebrate properly! Thank you to everyone who came out to support the lads, it truly means the world to us.
“We now look forward to the Premier Cup final against Rhostyllen in a fortnight and the challenges Tier 3 will bring beyond that.”
