Flint rounded off a promising debut season in tier 2 in the same fashion as they started it – with a victory.
Back in September, the Silkwomen began life as a Genero Adran North side with a 4-3 success over Llanfair United in the league trophy.
There have been a few ups and downs since then, but Oli Williams’ team saved the best till last with arguably their finest display of the campaign at the Essity Stadium on Sunday.
Taking on a Bangor outfit they had drawn 0-0 with early in the season, the Silkies had the ideal start when they won a penalty for a foul in the second minute which Zoe Stopford smartly put away for her 13th goal this term.
Bangor’s cause was not helped when they had defender Erin Basinger red-carded in the 12th minute for violent conduct.
Nonetheless, the visitors held out till half time with just a one-goal deficit.
Flint made the extra player count in the second half as Rosie Hughes grabbed her first goals for the team in 2025.
In the 59th minute, Stopford played a through ball for Hughes, who placed it to the keeper’s right for 2-0.
On 69, Ruby Hastings released Hughes, whose first shot was brilliantly blocked by keeper Catrin Roberts, but the 19-year-old livewire followed up to notch her eighth goal this season.
Bangor had their opportunities, Mia Roberts showing up particularly well in midfield, but home keeper Becky Bott was in solid form.
Chloe Hughes had a very impressive game at left-back for the hosts.
So, a winning end for a Flint side which has proved a real asset to the league with their enterprising play.
Had a couple of results gone their way, particularly at home to Llandudno where they conceded very late in a 3-3 draw, plus a last-gasp 3-2 loss at champions Connah’s Quay Nomads, then a fourth-place finish might have been a truer reflection of their abilities.
However, overall it has been a season the Silkwomen can feel proud of.
