BREAKING: Connah’s Quay Nomads suspended from football over compensation row

Current Welsh Cup holders Connah’s Quay Nomads have been suspended from football

Connah’s Quay Nomads have been suspended from all football in a row over unpaid compensation – but the club insist it will not take the matter lying down.

The FAW informed the JD Cymru Premier League club in an email today that none of its teams are permitted to play until the dispute is settled.

At a disciplinary panel last month, the FAW ruled Nomads must pay another North Wales club almost £10,000 in compensation over a matter believed to be related to the signing of academy players.

The FAW claims it informed Connah’s Quay of the decision by email and gave the club a month to pay the amount.

However, Nomads insist no such email was received and the first it knew about the payment due was today.

Connah’s Quay Nomads owner Gary Dewhurst says the FAW has acted wrongly and plans to take the matter further.

Nomads’ women’s side, newly-crowned champions of the Genero Adran North, were due to play their final league match of the season at home to Felinheli on Sunday, but Mr Dewhurst said that game has now been cancelled.

Connah’s Quay men’s team has still to play the Welsh Cup Final and two league games, plus possibly play-offs to qualify for Europe.

An FAW spokesman said the association would give Connah’s Quay every chance to settle the payment, but could not comment further.
