Rhyl ended their home fixtures on a high note with a two-goal win over traditional coastal rivals Bangor.
The Lilywhites’ much-improved home form towards the end of the 2024-25 Genero Adran North campaign continued on a cold evening at the Hops and Barley Community Stadium.
The hosts made the breakthrough in the 19th minute when a Rachael Thomas free kick into the box was finished off by Becca Bannister.
Rhyl made it 2-0 on 40 minutes when player-manager Cassandra Thomas played a ball into the box and Laura Williams whipped home a trademark lethal strike past keeper Catrin Roberts.
Bangor produced some neat passing football during the game, but failed to trouble keeper Lauren Jones.
The visitors came up with some good build-up play, but often the final delivery was lacking or they were reluctant to pull the trigger.
By contrast, Rhyl fired in quite a few shots and looked dangerous going forward.
Sade Benjamin was clean through on goal in the second half, but sliced her effort off target.
The introduction of Rosie O’Brien in the second half added more zip to the home attack, the left-sided specialist producing some great runs at the Bangor defence.
On one occasion, the bravery of Bangor keeper Roberts came to the fore as O’Brien bore down on goal.
After the match, winning player-boss Cassandra Thomas was more than satisfied with the performance.
“I’m really pleased with the result,” she said. “We knew it was a must-win game. Two great assists followed by two well-taken goals was enough to secure the three points. It wasn’t the best game for us in terms of quality, but the girls ensured that the game was always in our hands.
“A massive thank you to everyone who came out to support last night.
“There has been a huge shift in the performances from the group compared to the start of the season and I can’t ask for any more. The girls are finally getting the rewards for their hard work.
“We are all really looking forward to our final game of the season (away to Llandudno on Sunday).”
