Ardal North West: Rhyl five points from title after Porthmadog crash at Corwen

Scott Evans was among the Corwen marksmen against Porthmadog

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 need five points from their remaining four games to be crowned 2024-25 Ardal North West champions.

Second-place Porthmadog’s 3-0 defeat at Corwen today means the Traeth side can only reach 66 points, the maximum also available to Holyhead Hotspur in third.

Therefore 67 points is the magic number, although depending on other results, the Lilywhites might not require that many.

Paul Moore’s men still have Trearddur Bay, Porthmadog and Llannefydd to play at home, plus Llanrwst United away.

REPORTS – MARCH 22

Corwen 3 Porthmadog 0

Corwen ended a run of four games without a win in some style by seeing off second-place Porthmadog at the War Memorial Park.

Pat Hinchcliffe handed the hosts a ninth-minute lead, the assist coming all the way from goalkeeper Tyler French.

Four minutes before the break, Henry Evans set up Tom Williams for number two.

Scott Evans converted a 53rd minute penalty to clinch the points and hand Port their first loss in nine league and cup games.

Holyhead Hotspur 2 Llannefydd 0

In-form Hotspur gained revenge for a 2-1 defeat at Llannefydd early in the season.

Cory Williams, two-goal super-sub the previous weekend in a stunning 4-3 win at Rhyl, made the most of a starting place this time as he notched his 20th of the season after just five minutes, Craig Whelan assisting.

Kane Roberts added a decisive second in the 89th minute, Kenleigh Owen with the assist.

Hotspur were defensively solid, limiting the visitors to half-chances and the home side were clinical in attack. A really professional performance from Darren Garmey’s men.

St Asaph City 1 Connah’s Quay Town 1

Freddie Watts handed Connah’s Quay a 25th minute lead, but a red-card for Tom Burrows on 57 weakened the visitors and Callum Roberts equalised on the hour to bag Saints a point.
