Ynys Môn has produced so many great goalscorers over the years including the most prolific of all, Asa Thomas.
One of the finest hitmen of recent seasons celebrates his 24th birthday today – Caergybi captain Louis Chapman.
Born on March 14, 2001, Louis Edward Chapman did not start playing senior football until he was 20, joining CPD Caergybi in 2021-22.
Since then, he has scored 118 goals in 110 appearances for his only club, scooping 16 hat-tricks.
In his first season, he netted 51 times and finished third in the Bob Brodie Trophy competition which crowns Anglesey’s top senior goal-getter.
Louis bagged 29 goals in 2022-23, registered 18 last season and this term is on 20.
Prior to joining Caergybi, Louis had excelled in junior football, but did not sign up for the men’s game until that 2021-22 campaign.
In his first outing for the Holyhead side, he netted twice in a 4-2 Welsh Cup victory at CPD Cefni and followed up with four in his debut league appearance, Caergybi beating Mountain Rangers 4-1 in a North Wales Coast West Division One match.
He scored in each of his opening eight games, rattling up 17 goals, then in December 2021, he pocketed seven in an 11-0 drubbing of CPD Y Fali.
Louis’ 51 goals over the season from 32 games included eight hat-tricks.
The 2022-23 campaign delivered 29 goals with four trebles, Louis also being on target twice in Caergybi’s most famous win, the tier 5 club defeating T3 Cefn Albion 3-0 in the FAW Amateur Trophy.
Then 2023-24 was an 18-goal season, Louis unusually not scoring in his first five games before a hat-trick versus Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs got him off the mark.
He was on 98 goals for the club at the end of last season.
When he notched a hat-trick in a 5-1 win at Mountain Rangers on August 10 this term, he reached the 100-goal milestone in his 92nd appearance.
Louis is currently in great form, scoring in each of his last five games, chalking up nine goals in the process.
Football runs in the Chapman family as his brothers Floyd, 25, and Jake, 22, also play for Caergybi.
Big happy birthday to Louis – hope the goals keep flowing for many seasons to come.
