Ardal Northern League Cup: Dramatic win for Trearddur Bay, Brickfield, Porthmadog and Radnor also progress

It’s a late winner for Trearddur Bay! Pictures: SEAN CHADWICK – many thanks

ARDAL NORTHERN LEAGUE CUP QUARTER-FINALS

Trearddur Bay 2 Bow Street 1

Dewi Thomas levelled for Bay

In a dramatic finish at Maes Cynlas, two late goals ensured Trearddur Bay made it back-to-back semi-final qualifications.

Hot on the heels of last weekend’s 7-2 caning of Brickfield Rangers in the FAW Amateur Trophy quarters came an equally tough contest against Ardal North East leaders Bow Street.

The Ceredigion visitors edged ahead deep into first half added time, Rhys Hughes on the mark and Josh Davies with the assist.

Bay have proved themselves to be equally adept at building big leads or producing table-turning performances this season.

On this occasion they needed the latter, as the game reached the 85 minute mark and they still trailed 1-0.

Les Davies (19 – dark blue) poses danger for Bow Street

This team is never beaten, though, and when substitute Sion Edwards put the ball into a dangerous area, Dewi Thomas slotted left-footed into the bottom corner from just inside the box.

It was now anyone’s tie and penalties were looming until the game was won with 92 minutes on the clock.

A long throw from Tom Taylor via the right was flicked on by sub Les Davies and Josh Stanley Williams was quickest to react with an instinctive finish.

Total joy for the home supporters and a disappointing cup exit for a second week running for Bow Street.

Subs used: Sion Edwards, Kian Hughes, Les Davies.

Kerry 0 Porthmadog 1

Shaun Cavanagh’s 90th minute strike edged Porthmadog into the semi-finals at the expense of Ardal North East high-flyers Kerry.

Llannefydd 1 Radnor Valley 2

Quite a surprise at Cae Llan, where the in-form home side were beaten by a team modestly placed in Ardal North East.

Tom Jones broke the deadlock in the 44th minute giving Gwyndaf Pritchard’s home team an interval lead.

However, Elliot Morris equalised on 67 before Thomas Edwards bagged an 86th minute winner for the Goats.

NFA 1 Brickfield Rangers 1 (Brickfield won 4-2 on penalties)

NFA lost in the last round on penalties – but were reinstated after opponents Nantlle Vale were found proven to have fielded an ineligible player.

Today saw the Rhyl-based hosts beaten again on spot-kicks following a 1-1 draw – this time by Wrexham side Brickfield Rangers, who bounced back brilliantly after a 7-2 FAW Amateur Trophy loss at Trearddur Bay seven days earlier.

David Wallis’ 13th minute goal gave NFA a half-time lead, but Kian Thomas levelled after 53, Isaac Dawson with the assist.

No further goals so pens were needed and two misses from the home side meant Brickfield advanced 4-2 in a shootout.
