Treble for Bess as Pwllheli edge seven-goal thriller at Kinmel Bay

Bess Roberts was a Pwllheli hero for a second week running as her hat-trick ensured the visitors took the points at Y Morfa.

Seven days earlier, Bess scored an extra time winner at Bangor to send Pwll into the NEWFA Women’s Challenge Cup Final.

On Sunday, her three goals did most to secure a hard-fought league victory over Kinmel Bay.

The game was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams displaying exceptional skill and determination.

Pwllheli started brightly, with Bess Roberts opening the scoring in the 11th minute, capitalising on a defensive error.

Kinmel Bay found the equaliser in the 33rd minute with young Lexi Walsh, a former goal machine with the Bay Under-16s, scoring on her debut for the senior side.

Three minutes later Walsh found the back of the net again with a cracking shot following a well-placed pass from Georgia Williams.

As the game gathered pace with end to end football from both, Lois Thomas for Pwhelli put a long ball over the defence for Bess Roberts, who nicely slotted the into the net with Shelby Wild narrowly missing the save.

Half-time: 2-2

The second half continued at pace, and after three minutes Natasha Standing delivered a great corner kick which found the head of Bay skipper Seren Williams, who nicely found the top of the net.

Kinmel Bay maintained the lead through to the 76th minute before lapses of concentration first allowed Erica Jones to equalise before Cassie Ogilvy set up Bess Roberts for her hat-trick.

Despite relentless pressure in the final moments, Kinmel could not find the equaliser.

The match showcased the team’s resilience and attacking intention but ultimately, they were edged out in a fantastic end to end game.
