Paul Fleming’s goal late in the first half was enough to clinch Rhyl the victory which extended their lead at the summit to seven points.

The Lilywhites are now unbeaten in their last 11 league matches, a run which started with a 2-0 home win over Llangefni Town on November 2 and continued on Friday as the table-toppers completed a season’s double over the Anglesey side.

Most title contenders win quite a few games handsomely, but often prove their champions potential by coming out on top in the tight matches too. Friday’s encounter was an example of the latter as Rhyl held off a strong finish from Town to take the honours.

Conwy Borough 4-6 Menai Bridge Tigers

Joy for Menai Bridge as they climbed off the bottom of the table after celebrating just a third league win of the campaign.

And what a game it was as the islanders came out on top in a frantic 10-goal affair at Y Morfa.

Jamie McDaid (2), Callum Graves, Sion Hogan, Kurt Hellfeld and a James Etherington own goal made up the Tigers’ tally, sub Theo Davies (2), Ray Knight, who also missed a penalty, and an N/A delivering the Conwy replies.

Rhyl 1879 lost a two-goal lead but boosted their unbeaten run to 10 league matches on a very special afternoon at the Hops and Barley Community Stadium.

Admission was free so the club could celebrate with its fans gaining ownership of the former Belle Vue ground.

A cracking attendance of 627 turned out to see an exciting encounter against Pwllheli, who the Lilywhites had beaten 2-0 away a fortnight earlier.

The game started with Pwll getting on the front foot, but it was Rhyl who started to create the better early chances.

The hosts got their deserved lead on 28 minutes when from a Billy Holmes corner young forward Archie Jones swivelled his body to get his head on to the ball at the near post and found the top right-hand corner of the net.

Three minutes later it was 2-0, again young Jones won the ball and took it forward outside the box laying it off to talented midfielder Sam Reynolds who fired home sweetly with his left foot.

The second half saw Pwllheli come out with a lot more confidence, trying to match Rhyl’s energy across the pitch and at times played some good football out from the back with sharp triangles of play.

The visitors eventually got back into the match with a clever short corner routine catching 1879 out. The two on one developed leading to a shot from outside the box that was spilled by keeper George Huyton into the path of Luke Steele to fire home.

Pwllheli were now on top and the game saw its fourth goal when a simple ball over the top of the defence caught the Lilywhites out and the ball was played into the box for Steele to score his second.

Rhyl kicked into action with relentless attacks, Dylan Proctor, Jason Foulkes and James Hay all with great chances, however it was not to be and Pwllheli came away deserving of their point.

Llangefni Town 2-2 Connahs Quay Town

All-square at Cae Bob Parry, Cameron Jones scoring twice for Llangefni but also receiving a late red card, while Pascal Gomez and Lewis Williams hit back to earn the visitors a point.

St Asaph City 2-2 Holyhead Hotspur

Two own goals featured in this drawn encounter at Roe Plas Meadows.

Shay Murphy struck in the first minute for Hotspur, who held their lead up to half time.

A Morgan Davies OG early in the second half put Saints level, but on 64 Ben Hesketh also found the wrong net to restore the away advantage.

However, Jake Walker replied for City on 67 to ensure it finished honours even.
