GENERO ADRAN NORTH

Connah’s Quay Nomads 7 Llandudno 1

Skipper Polly Wild McGregor continued her remarkable season by scoring a hat-trick as runaway leaders Nomads beat champions Llandudno out of sight.

Former Tudno striker Ella Jones added a double, with Evie Chard and Elana Harley scoring one apiece for Quay, who now have an 11-point lead at the summit.

The visitors started well, Maddie Williams and Kelsey Davies striking the crossbar early on, but the hosts edged ahead on 10 minutes when Wild-McGregor latched onto a through ball and finished confidently.

In the 28th minute, Poppy Kendrick-Jones supplied a pass for Ella Jones, who slotted home smartly under pressure.

Llandudno’s hopes were revived briefly when Angharad Jones made it 2-1, but by half time the home team were three ahead, Chard netting from close range before Wild-McGregor beautifully curled into the bottom corner.

After the break, Wild-McGregor setup Ella Jones for her second, then Harley found the net from a Phoebe Ellis corner.

Wild-McGregor completed her hat-trick nine minutes from time.

With nine wins out of nine, it surely is not a matter of IF Nomads win the title now, it is WHEN.

Just the one goal separated the sides at Mount Field, Harriet Davies’ 23rd minute strike sealing the win which edged Llanfair up to second in the table.

Rhyl 1879 manager Cassie Thomas shared her thoughts after the game.

“Unfortunately today we suffered a narrow defeat again. It was a scrappy game of football with the majority of the game played in the middle third with both teams battling.

“We lacked a little fight and desire at times but we put the pressure on in the second half and we’re very unlucky not to get the equaliser. Fine margins again but team spirit remains high. With a little break we will work hard ready for the last push.”

Cassie chose defender Sophie Haywood as her 𝗣𝗢𝗧𝗠. “Soph showed a solid defensive performance today working extremely hard for the team and never giving up,” added the manager.
