Revenge for six-goal stars Henllan in Vale of Clwyd derby

Henllan are flying at the East Division summit

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE EAST DIVISION

Denbigh Town 1 (L Morris)
Henllan 6 (B Roberts 3, Cattell 2, Fitzgerald)

Leaders Henllan gained revenge for a 4-3 loss to Denbigh at the start of the season – a game which the villagers led 3-0 at one stage before a major turnaround.

The East division table-toppers arrived at Central Park with no subs, no regular keeper and with 2 or 3 also carrying knocks but came home worthy winners.

Within a minute Lleucu Williams put through Beth Roberts, who outpaced the defence to score with her left foot.

It was two before the five-minute mark when Roberts hooked the ball into the empty net after a mix up,

Abby Cattell then played Roberts in for her hat trick but keeper Netty Young saved with her foot.

On 20 Cattell scored the goal of the game when her shot from outside the box sailed in over the keeper

Just before half time Denbigh got on the scoresheet when Lucy Morris finished off an Amber Hellon cross

In the 61st minute, Roberts scored her hat-trick with a low shot in the corne – her 34th goal of the season.

Henllan had to play the last 20 with 10 when midfielder Rhian Edwards was forced off injured, Stand-in keeper Elin Griffiths did really well in goal despite not having a save to make all game with Henllan defenders Gwenno Williams, Ella Allen, Magi Pierce and Siwan Lloyd all outstanding,

Mabli Fitzgerald made it five on 81 with a good finish. After 88, Roberts’ shot hit the bar and Cattell was there to tap in goal 15 for the season.

Coach Gerwyn Jones was delighted with the attitude and battling performance of a Henllan team which gave everything on the pitch.
