Another big win for Henllan whose debut season in senior football has been a major boost for the game in North Wales.
Filled with talented teenagers, the team representing the village near Denbigh have proved a breath of fresh air.
Sunday’s game in Powys saw Henllan start on the front foot in the first 20 minutes but couldn’t get past Welshpool keeper Ray-Anna Palmer, who made save after save.
The villagers finally broke the deadlock on 21 minutes when Beth Roberts headed in Lleucu Williams’ corner.
Mabli Fitzgerald made it two on 29 and a couple of minutes later Fitzgerald crossed to Roberts for number three.
In the 40th minute, Roberts completed her hat trick after a perfect through ball by full back Elin Griffith.
Roberts looked to have made it the fabulous 50 on the stroke of half time, but the final touch came off Powys based defender Lilly Tulloch.
On the hour, Roberts completed her half century for the season, and then scored two more for her double hat trick.
In the last 25 minutes it became the Roberts versus Palmer show, with the Welshpool keeper making a string of fine saves. The post and bar also denied Roberts the goal that would have broken Llangefni’s Jess Jones recent record.
With most of the girls having exams in the next few weeks, Henllan may have to forfeit their final game against Northop Hall.
Lucy Morris led the way with a hat-trick as Denbigh clinched runners-up spot with a seven-goal victory at Northop Hall.
Morris scored on 27, 36 and 72 minutes, while the other away goals were supplied by Paige Perkins, Ceri Purvis, Bethany Kell and Lowri Claybrook.
Champions Berriew fought back from a goal down to end their campaign on a winning note.
Ffion Jones’ 24th goal of the season handed the Wingmakers a 57th minute lead, but Hannah Richards levelled on 74 and Gemma Jones’ 30th of 2024-25 after 89 proved to be the decider.
Captain Heledd Savage and 17-year-old Nel Pritchard found the net as Llanystumdwy made it back-to-back away wins.
Llan will travel to Kinmel Bay for their final league game this Sunday with the winners guaranteed third place.
