CPD Y Rhyl 1879 have certainly had a whole new spark since Paul Moore and Ronnie Green took the helm last month.

The Lilywhites have taken 10 points from a possible 12 since the new management team was appointed.

Aside from a disappointing draw at bottom-placed Menai Bridge Tigers, 1879 have produced three fine home victories, and after Saturday’s 6-1 beating of Nantlle Vale are just three points behind leaders Porthmadog.

The latest success for the Hops and Barley Community Stadium side was definitely their most impressive since manager Moore and assistant Green joined the club.

On another day, the Lilywhites could have had a dozen. Their swift, attacking football carved out a plethora of chances to entertain what has to be said was a small crowd on a cold afternoon.

Jason Foulkes was my man of the match.

Not only did the former Denbigh Town and St Asaph City player score two brilliant goals, his deliveries from corners were sublime.

Dylan Proctor made it 14 goals in seven matches with his latest pair, but probably should have bagged a double hat-trick, although he was very unlucky to see one effort bounce back off the bar and a late strike somehow cleared by the keeper.

Regardless, Proctor seems to be really thriving under the new bosses.

It was certainly an exciting show from the Lilywhites with everyone putting in a solid display.

Defenders Reece Fairhurst and Billy Holmes looked effective when joining the attacks, while Paul Fleming became increasingly influential going forward as the match went on.

As for Nantlle Vale, they have struggled at times this season, but had won their last two league encounters ahead of Saturday.

They came up against a dynamic opponent, but still the Penygroes outfit created some chances of their own and defended heroically at times when Rhyl threatened to overwhelm them.

Nantlle heads never dropped, they put bodies on the line right through to the final whistle, with goalkeeper Oliver Rhys Jones very impressive.

The fixture list has fallen quite favourably for Moore and Green so far. There will be harder tests ahead, but whatever comes their way, if they produce more performances like Saturday’s, 1879 will be in the title picture till the final kick.
