Getting the band back together at Prestatyn Town!

Prestatyn Town manager Gareth Thomas has now been joined by two members of his former backroom team from CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

Both Steve Jones and Ryan Turner are part of the new-look set up at Bastion Gardens.

Thomas took over as manager of the Cymru North club on November 15. Jones and Turner have now made it a Rhyl reunion at Town.

Turner has plenty of past experience with Prestatyn, first becoming joint-manager with Leon Field in 2018, the pair having previously worked together at Kinmel Bay.

When Neil Gibson returned to Bastion Gardens as boss in October 2018, Turner was appointed his assistant.

Between 2020-21, Turner was manager outright at Prestatyn, then later served as assistant to Ben Heath.

Turner was coach under Chris Jones at Bastion Gardens before switching to Rhyl to work under Gareth Thomas at the start of 2022-23.

He now becomes assistant to “Perry” at Prestatyn, where he also did great past work with the academy in his earlier stint.

Steve Jones, known as ‘Joner’, was a highly regarded striker for Rhyl FC, Bangor City and Colwyn Bay in the 1980s and 90s, and had a spell as joint-manager at Prestatyn in 2003-04.

He has just been appointed coach at Prestatyn, making him again part of Gareth Thomas’ backroom staff as was the case at Rhyl 1879.

Gareth Thomas

Thomas said: “I’ve spoken to Steve the last few weeks as I was keen to get him involved. He is a great coach, superb around the changing rooms and is someone I can trust having known him and worked with him at previous clubs.

“Players have the utmost respect for him and he will bring a winning mentality to the club.”

Jones added: “Having worked previously with Perry, I know the work, dedication and detail he puts into the role and I’m happy to come and join the club and look to help improve the position the club finds itself in.

“The project is longer than people realise- the people involved at the club are good, honest footballing people and I’m looking forward to the challenge and journey ahead.”

The popular trio have their work cut out if they are to be a success at Bastion, Prestatyn Town are currently bottom of tier 2 Cymru North after nine league defeats on the bounce.
