Happy birthday to Bangor 1876 winger Liam Morris – 26 oday.
Born on December 9, 1998, Liam joined 1876 at the start of 2022-23 and has netted 36 goals for the team in 69 appearances across all competitions.
One of Liam’s many attributes is his ability to score crucial goals.
Typical examples include his late double in a 3-2 win at Flint Mountain towards the end of 1876’s promotion-winning 2022-23 season.
Another priceless goal came in the final game of that same campaign, when Liam pounced in extra time to give Bangor a vital 3-2 lead in an Ardal Northern play-off final against Cefn Albion they eventually won 4-2.
The striker started his career at Llanfairpwll and Gaerwen but came to major prominence at Llangefni Town where he helped the Anglesey side win the Welsh Alliance Division One title in 2018-19 with a 22-goal haul.
His performances helped him seal a move to Cymru North club Conwy Borough in summer 2019.
Liam featured in 25 matches for Boro in 2019-20, scoring four times.
In 2020-21, he joined Holyhead Hotspur, but the team played just once – a 1-0 success over Llandudno in the Nathaniel MG Cup – before the season was scrapped for the whole of Welsh football below Tier 1 due to Covid.
The 2021-22 campaign saw Liam perform well in the Cymru North for Hotspur, notching 10 goals in 27 appearances. He won the Cymru North Player of the Month award for November.
Next came the move to Bangor 1876, where he scored a hat-trick on debut in a 9-2 Welsh Cup thrashing of CPD Llanberis,
He grabbed 21 goals in his first season with Bangor, followed by 12 in 2023-24 and three so far this term.
Liam’s ability to find the net and be a great provider of goals goes beyond his feats at club level.
He is Ynys Môn’s third highest scorer of all-time in the International Island Games with seven goals, only Eifion Williams (8) and Richard ‘Boskin’ Hughes (9) ahead of him.
In the 2019 one-off Inter-Games, Liam netted in wins against Western Isles and Jersey before hitting a truly magnificent goal – a left-foot volley – to equalise in the final versus Guernsey, in which Anglesey triumphed 2-1.
Then in the 2023 Island Games, Liam scored against Shetland Islands, Falklands Islands and Isle of Man (twice) as Ynys Môn scooped the silver medal.
That stunner against Guernsey in the 2019 final proved once again that Liam Morris is the man any team needs for that piece of magic to turn a game.
Have a great birthday Liam.
