Rhyl 1879 manager Cassie Thomas felt her team were unlucky losers to Llanfair United at the Hops and Barley Stadium on Sunday.

The Lilywhites are still awaiting their first league win of the campaign, but it will not be far away if they keep performing like they did against Llanfair.

Paris Schofield put the Powys visitors ahead on 26 minutes and it remained 1-0 up tp half time.

Sade Benjamin equalised on 68, but United upped a gear and went 3-1 up via Harriet Davies and the ever-impressive Sophie Cook.

Rachael Thomas won the penalty which Becca Bannister converted a minute from time, but it was not quite enough to stave off defeat.

Home manager Cassie Thomas said: “In all honesty today hurt a lot. We didn’t deserve to lose that game at all. The girls were fantastic, our team performances are getting better each week.

“They are taking everything onboard and putting it into practice, the girls will soon get what they deserve.

“I couldn’t ask for anything more today, every single player put a shift in, I am very proud of the performance displayed today.”

Captain Rachael Thomas was the manager’s choice as player of the match.

“Rach battled throughout the game, winning vital set pieces including the penalty that Boo (Bannister) converted. A captain’s performance leading by example.”

A first point of the season for NFA, with a late equaliser from Georgia Owen-Lewis denying them all three.

The visitors showed more desire in the first half and took a 31st minute lead when Amy Webster pressurised the home defence into an error before finishing in the bottom corner.

After the interval the hosts were much more determined and applied plenty of pressure on the away goal.

NFA manager Niall McGuinness was red carded on the hour and things got more dificult for the Rhyl side when keeper Courtney Ingram was forced off with a head injury on 72.

Nonetheless, her replacement pulled off a great save to deny Ella Jones.

In the 87th minute Owen-Lewis made it 1-1 via a left-footed half-volley following a corner.

Cerys Parry and Seren MacDonald both hit the bar for the hosts before the end.
