Flint Town United unveil their new star signing

Shona Roberts has joined Flint Town United

Flint Town United have signed tier 2 title-winning defender Shona Roberts from Llandudno.

It is further evidence of the ever-improving Silkwomen’s ability to attract top talent to the Essity.

Shona is in her seventh season of playing senior women’s football yet is still only 23.

A strong, powerful defender who is also good on the ball, she can join in attacks with devastating effect.

On his new signing, Flint manager Oli Williams commented: ”We’re really happy to have Shona sign for us, she will bring a lot of quality and experience to our squad.

“We have been so impressed with Shona in games we have seen her and we are delighted she has signed.

“To sign a player of Shona’s quality shows the direction we are going in. Players want to be part of Flint Town, and despite other clubs declaring interest, Shona opted to join us on our journey.

We are all very much looking forward to seeing Shona in action in a Flint shirt!”

Shona began her football career at Colwyn Bay, then represented Llandudno from under-14 to U-16 level before breaking into the senior side. She also played for the North Wales Coast Development Centre.

The defender made her Welsh Premier League debut for Llandudno in 2017-18 at the age of 16 and quickly impressed the management in the way she adapted to the adult game.

Shona spent the 2019-20 campaign at Connah’s Quay Nomads, helping tne newly-formed team reach the Welsh Cup semi-finals and finish unbeaten as North Wales League Division Two runners-up.

When football returned in 2021-22 she was with CPDM Bethel (Felinheli) for a season, often playing as a midfielder and netting three goals in 20 appearances.

Football coach Shona returned to Llandudno in 2022-23 and was part of the 2023-24 Genero Adran North title-winning side.

In her second spell with the Seasiders, she made 55 appearances, scoring six goals.

Now she makes the switch to another tier 2 Adran North club in Flint Town United.
