Paul Fleming leaves Denbigh Town and heads for third-tier club

Double-winning captain Paul Fleming has left Denbigh Town and is on his way to a third-tier club.

The midfield general established himself as a Town legend in five years at Central Park where the highlight was lifting the tier 3 Ardal North West title and Ardal Northern Cup in 2022-23.

Fleming, 37, made his move to LL16 from St Asaph City in 2019, winning the Players’ Player of the Season Award before taking the captain’s armband.

His club debut came in a 2-1 win at Penrhyndeudraeth in the Welsh Alliance Division Two Cup on October 5, 2019.

Fleming’s first goal for Town was in the same competition in a 3-0 victory over Bodedern Athletic on December 7, 2019.

As captain, Fleming won both the aforementioned league and cup double, whilst also skippering the side to the 2023 FAW Trophy final.

In that unforgettable 2022-23 campaign, he bagged 24 goals in 38 matches.

In a Town shirt, he totalled 133 games in all competitions scoring 42 goals26 league and 16 cups – in what has been a memorable time at Central Park.

Perhaps the most treasured of all those goals came in stoppage time to win the Vale of Clwyd Derby on Boxing Day 2023 in front of 1,145 supporters.

He now departs to join an Ardal North-West side in search of further game time having made 15 appearances in all this term and scoring four goals.

A Denbigh Town statement said: “The club would like to express its sincere thanks to Paul for his outstanding efforts on the pitch and leadership during a superb era for the club.”
