ARDAL NORTH WEST – NOVEMBER 9

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 2 (D Proctor 23 & 67)
Connah’s Quay Town 0

A great start for new Rhyl 1879 manager Paul Moore saw his side rise up to second in Ardal North West after beating fellow high-flyers Connah’s Quay Town with two Dylan Proctor goals.

DAVE JONES REPORTS FROM BELLE VUE

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

13 min: Volley from Rhyl’s James Stevens flies just over the bar after good work down the right from Jason Foulkes

23 min -GOAL: The Lilywhites are rewarded for being the more attacking side in the first quarter. Jordan Worthington looks to have run the ball too far, but it loops up off Rhys Harvey Jones and DYLAN PROCTOR sends a superb volley from 20 yards into the bottom left-hand corner beyond the diving goalkeeper. RHYL 1879 1 TOWN 0

Quay came more into things as the half went on, Kyle Reid’s set-pieces and long throws testing the Rhyl defence, but despite a couple of near misses the visitors are unable to test keeper Adam Reid.

HALF-TIME: Rhyl 1879 1 Town 0

50 min: Rhyl begin the second half well, sub Jonny Bravo Pinto laying the ball off beautifully for Dylan Proctor, whose left-foot shot is blocked.

54 min: Quay’s Jamie Reed – great to see him back at Belle Vue – robs Tom Kemp of possession and lets fly right-footed from an angle, but Reid saves well.

Connah’s Quay Town veteran Jamie Reed (blue – 10) heads towards goal

57 min: Close to an equaliser as Town’s Josh Roberts doesn’t miss by much with a low drive.

65 min: Defender Owen Edwards tests Reid with a 30-yarder

67 min – GOAL: A crucial second goal for 1879 at a time where the visitors look threatening. A low cross from the right is finished off from close range by DYLAN PROCTOR. That makes it eight goals in four games for the striker and nine from eight since he joined in September.

68 min: Town try to hit back immediately, sub Ben Hughes striking a powerful shot which is well tipped over by Reid.

New Rhyl manager Paul Moore (front) applauds the home fans at the end of the game

72 min: Sub Connor Parry’s fierce volley is blocked and Hughes lofts the rebound over. Quay have had chances but failed to take them. Rhyl’s defending was awesome, bodies on the line time and again.

86 min: Surely a third for Rhyl? Bravo evades the challenge of outrushing keeper Walker, cuts in from the right and two 1879 players are all alone waiting for the pass to score a certain goal. However, Bravo keeps possession too long and is robbed of the ball.

92 min: Rhyl finish strongly, sub Dan Wright missing by inches after more good work down the right.

FULL-TIME: Rhyl 1879 2 Connah’s Quay Town 0
