Rhyl put a smile back on their supporters’ faces after a 2-0 win over Llangefni delivered some cheer following a difficult period for the club.
With Gareth Thomas having departed as manager during the week, Andy Wilmot led the team alongside Ryan Turner and Steve Jones.
The Lilywhites started well. On 10 minutes Dylan Proctor sent a cross over from the left-hand side, finding Jason Foulkes whose header was smartly saved by visiting keeper Gethin Hughes.
Just a minute later, Dylan Proctor made it 1-0 after Reece Fairhurst played the ball back across the box.
On 30 minutes it was time for goalkeeper Adam Reid to shine as he made a great save down low to his left to deny Llangefni an equaliser.
With 35 played James Stevens delivered from the right and Jonny Bravo narrowly headed wide.
The second half continued it a similar vein with both sides matching one another throughout the early stages. It took until the 81st minute before the back of the net would be found again.
Dylan Proctor scored his second goal of the game, finding the bottom right corner with an excellent effort from the edge of the box.
CPD Y Rhyl 1879: Adam Reid, Calum Proctor, Tom Kemp, Reece Fairhurst (c), Casey Faulkner, James Hay, Sam Ashton, Jason Foulkes, James Stevens, Jonny Bravo, Dylan Proctor. Subs: Elliot Turner, Carl Lamb, Jordan Worthington, Leigh Craven, Dan Wright.
Archie Jones (3), Dan Hughes, Oliver Hansen, Rhys Lloyd and Curtis Cook shared the goals for NFA, Sion Hogan replying for the bottom side.
Two late goals from John Littlemore and Cai Jones finally secured a win which took a long time to seal for unbeaten leaders Porthmadog.
The hosts dominated from start to finish, while Conwy, under new manager Simon Allen, defended superbly with goalkeeper Josh Cooke simply outstanding.
Port showed their intent in the fourth minute when a 25 yard left foot drive by Danny Brookwell stung the outstretched palms of Cooke.
Shortly after the half hour, there was controversy when Kurtis Pearson hit a left-footed daisy-cutter which Cooke could only parry onto the inside of the post.
It looked for all the world as if he had scooped the rebound from behind the line. Amazingly, however, the assistant referee was unmoved and awarded nothing, much to the anger of the Port followers.
At the start of the second half, Port forced three corners in as many minutes. The third one caused mayhem, during which Conwy managed five consecutive goal-line clearances.
However, referee Tomos Huw Jones had spotted a hand ball infringement during that session of pinball. Up stepped Ryan Williams to take the spot kick, but his right foot effort was lacking in both direction and power and Cooke pulled off a comfortable save.
On the hour, Rhys Alun was sent clear on goal but shot straight at the keeper. A Pearson shot was fumbled but Cooke blocked Rhys Alun`s follow-up. It was then Iddon Price’s turn as his powerful header clattered off the crossbar.
Finally, Port broke the deadlock on 82 minutes. A glorious cross-field pass by Pearson found the tireless Brookwell on the right flank. His cross picked out Rhys Alun, whose volleyed pass was gleefully tapped home by Littlemore.
Two minutes later, Cai Jones steered the ball well wide of Cooke to clinch victory.
Sam Henry equalised twice to earn Corwen a point at Roe Plas Meadows.
Josh Brown and Jake Walker had handed Saints the lead on two occasions.
Lyndon Jones (2) and Tommy Rowlands sealed the points for in-form Builth.
Good result for Albion, Torne Samuels, Conner Kendrick and Tom Smith with the all-important goals.
Ryan Houghton handed Chirk a half=tome lead, but James Rumsey’s goal rescued a point for Rhos after the interval.
Dennis Bates and Will Gruffydd put Dolgellau two-up before Mahaned Intchasso respondec close to half time.
Keiran McCarley’s double put Llandrindod two ahead inside 35 minutes, and despite the fact an Ashley Jones own goal and Matthew Mumford net-finder earned Kerry a draw, it was insufficient for them to reclaim top spot.
Harry Bowen’s 47th minute strike was enough to decide this close encounter in Penycae’s favour.
