Darts: young Gwalchmai team win remarkable double at league presentation

What a team! Young darts stars Gwalchmai B

Anglesey darts might just be producing the next Luke Littler or Beau Greaves.

The Gwalchmai B team of youngsters produced some amazing arrows during the Holyhead and District Darts League season, which culminated in a trophy double.

The village youth team reached not one, but two finals played on the league’s presentation night.

The first final was first to 8 legs which Gwalch B won 8-4.

The next final was a huge one for the league title itself against experienced players.

Gwalch B went two-down, but the youths threw some incredible darts and bounced back to make it 4-4..

It was down to the last game of the match to decide who would be crowned league winners.  The team concentrated on the board with huge pressure and all eyes on them on the stage. When the winning double went in for Gwalchmai, the whole place erupted in celebration for the youngsters.

Team organiser Steph Roberts said: “The youth darts club started in March 2024 at the Gwalchmai Hotel – where practice is held every Tuesday at 6.30pm – which 34 members joined. As so many joined and had an interest in darts., I decided to do a league between them and split into 4 teams.

Presentation was held in Wellman’s, Llangefni, so that finals could be played on stage with their walk-on songs just like the professionals!

“I decided to take a few of the players who I thought were ready to play in a league as a team. The summer league was out of their comfort zone. They were used to playing 501, but the summer league was double off 301.

“Their first game was a nervous one whilst they got used to the form of play, but week by week they improved immensely, hitting 180s and checking out big scores.”

The aim is now to build on the summer success.

The youth team have been promoted to Gwalchmai A, while another 6 members of the club have been formed as Gwalchmai B for the Holyhead Winter League.

The magical Gwalchmai B double winners were:

Luke Quarless

Levi Parry

Cian Evans

Morgan Nash

Lewis Jones

Catrin Jones

Aled Davies

Noah Jones
