As had been the case in their previous two meetings, there was very little to separate CPDM Bangor and CPD Y Rhyl 1879 on Sunday.
Last season’s Genero Adran North games ended 1-0 to Rhyl and 0-0, with the latest encounter finishing one-apiece.
Ashleigh Jones gave the hosts a 34th minute lead at Bangor City Stadium, but Sade Benjamin hit back for the Lilywhites on 43.
Bangor manager Aron Griffith said after the match: “I think I speak for everyone in saying we were gutted we didn’t come away with all the points. For about 30 minutes in the first half, we dominated possession, created chances and switched the ball well.
“Rhyl came back at us and scored to make it level at half time. In the second half we lost our composure at times, but we didn’t stop until the final whistle. We could have scored from a free kick when Ffion pinged one off the bar and we couldn’t convert the rebound, but we did extremely well.
“The girls have been putting the work in both on and off the pitch lately and I think today they deserved the three points.
“We’ve got Llandudno again next Sunday (home in the Genero Adran Trophy). We already know we’ll need to be clinical in what we do. They are an organised team so we’ll need to be at our best.”
“It was a well-fought game overall, truly a game of two halves. Bangor dominated the first half, playing some good football, while we bounced back and were on top in the second half.
“POTM – Cassie Thomas who was absolutely brilliant yet again. A solid performance from Cass who didn’t put a foot wrong.”
Three goals in six minutes in the closing stages from dynamo Polly Wild-McGregor ensured Nomads began their league campaign in some style.
It was a second hat-trick of the season already for the 18-year-old, who has notched seven goals in four matches.
Nomads took a 34th minute lead through Phoebe Ellis’ looping effort, although Anais Bathily was claiming the final touch.
The second home goal four minutes after the break definitely belonged to Bathily as she finished off a Wild McGregor assist.
It was still 2-0 until the 79th minute when a cracking strike from Mel Barlow made it three.
It was then time for the Wild McGregor late show as she scored on 83, 86 and 89 minutes.
Keira Hardstaff and Barlow provided the assists for the first two, while a penalty gave Wild-McGregor the chance to complete her treble.
Wild-McGregor’s kick was saved by Ffion Davies, but the striker followed up to knock in her third goal of the day.
Not the best of displays from Y Felinheli at the bottom side, but they still did enough to claim the points.
Felin took a fifth minute lead when a Jordanne Greenough corner was played over low from the right and Rubie Davies connected well, her shot finding the net after taking an awkward bounce which foiled the keeper. It was Davies’ first goal for the team.
NFA equalised on 21 minutes when Clare Smedley netted from distance, her effort looping in over keeper Catrin Beech.
Half time 1-1 and all to play for.
Midway through the second half Felinheli won a penalty. Ellie Jones’ kick was not too well struck and it appeared keeper Courtney Ingram had saved it, but the ball ended up trickling into the net.
Llywela Edwards made it 3-1 on 77 minutes when she whipped the ball goalwards from the right-side of the box, and although Ingram’s gloves again made contact, the shot finished up between the posts.
It could have been a heavier defeat for NFA but for some good stops from keeper Ingram.
