Ardal North West: Corwen add class signing Calyn Spencer to their squad

One of the stars who helped Flint Mountain become tier 3 champions last season is back in North Wales football.

Calyn Spencer, 24, is an exciting new signing for Ardal North West club Corwen.

Spencer’s first North Wales club was Penycae back in 2019-20, when the Wrexham area side competed in the former Welsh National League Premier Division.

The midfielder returned in 2022-23 when he joined Flint Mountain of Ardal North West. scoring six goals in 25 appearances.

Mountain finished an excellent fourth in the table, but last season was to be so much better for Aden Shannon’s men.

Despite having injuries at a couple of stages of last season, Calyn came through to play a starring role in Mountain’s amazing success, which brought them the Ardal North West title, NEWFA Challenge Cup, runners-up in the Ardal Northern Cup and a Welsh Cup quarter-final spot.

He also assisted the reserves in their outstanding campaign which saw them lift the NEWFA Reserve Cup and finish runners-up in the FAW Reserve League North Tier 3.

Over the season, Calyn played 37 first team games and scored seven goals.

Although he joined Chester and Wirral Football League club Waggon and Horses for the 2024-25 season, he is now back in the Welsh pyramid with Corwen.

Manager Adam Galdo said: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Calyn and welcome him to Corwen FC.

Adam Galdo

“Another big coup for the club and a very talented player that will add quality to the squad and offer another dimension to the team going forward.

“Calyn has tasted success at this level last season in doing a double with Flint Mountain. He is the right calibre of player we wanted to add in order to keep pushing the club forward and we are all looking forward to seeing him in a Corwen shirt.”
