JD WELSH CUP ROUND ONE NORTH REPORTS ROUND-UP

Trearddur Bay 2 NFA FC 1

He captained the North Wales Cricket League champions this summer and now he’s a Welsh Cup hero.

Joe Chaplin was the toast of Trearddur Bay after his last-gasp winner in Saturday’s national knockout victory over visitors NFA.

Chaplin skippered Mochdre to the NWCL Premier Division title for the first time in the club’s history this month.

With the cricket championship in the bag, the 31-year-old concentrated on his new football club Bay at the weekend, coming on as a 69th minute substitute at Maes Cynlas.

And in the 90th minute he delivered the hammer blow to NFA’s hopes, latching onto a Les Davies delivery and notching his first goal for the Anglesey club.

Chaplin has previously scored plenty of goals for the likes of Colwyn Bay, Gresford Athletic, Llandudno and Porthmadog in an impressive striking career and now hopes to help Trearddur Bay in their quest for success in the Tier 3 Ardal North West.

Saturday’s close-fought all ANW tie saw NFA take a 20th minute lead through Cammron Morris.

Toby Jones levelled on 34, but the game was in the balance until Chaplin decided it.

Buckley Town 7 Builth Wells 2

Brad Knight’s first half hat-trick helped Buckley on their way to a convincing Welsh Cup victory.

Player-manager Asa Hamilton added a second-half double, while Danny Holland and Rhys Edwards also found the net.

Danny Ives and Alex Hicks replied for the tier 3 underdogs.

Caersws 5 Cefn Albion 0

Goals from Josh Astley 2, Dillon Browne, Jamie Jones and one in the wrong net from Josh Millington secured a Bluebirds victory

Corwen 0 Llay Miners Welfare 1

Ethan Simpson notched the 65th minute goal which sent tier 2 visitors Llay into the next round at the expense of tier 3 hosts Corwen.

Llandudno Amateurs 0 Holyhead Hotspur 4

Tomi Llywelyn (penalty), Cory Williams, Jacob Godsman-Pilling and Dylan Summers-Jones scored one apiece to guide Hotspur into the next round.

Llandudno 4 CPD Llanberis 0

Adam Stephens, Dan Jones, Alex Boss and Anthony Stephens shared the goals in a tie the tier 2 hosts were expected to win against tier 4 opponents.

Llangefni Town 7 Gaerwen 1

Giant-killing heroes Gaerwen said goodbye to their memorable Welsh Cup adventure after the ability of tier 3 Llangefni proved too strong for their tier 5 underdogs.

A Ioan Sandison own goal in the very first minute was just the start the visiting Auctioneers did not need.

Goals from Jamie Thomas, Harry Hughes and Josh Stanley-Williams made it 4-0 to the Ardal North West hosts at the break.

Keiran Williams pulled one back for the North Wales Coast West Division One outfit in the 65th minute, but Stanley-Williams completed his hat-trick in the second period and Aron Hughes-Jones added another.

CPD Llannefydd 1 Rhydymwyn 0

Ciran Jones scored the only goal on 23 minutes to send Llannefydd into the next stage.

Llanrwst United 5 Menai Bridge Tigers 1

Julian Williams (2), Conor Davies, Leon Doran and Chris Nicolson combined to deliver a five-star show for the Rwsters, who could also afford the luxury of a missed Sam Thomas penalty.

New signing Kurt Hellfeld nabbed a late consolation for the Bridge.

CPD Llansannan 0 CPD Cerrigydrudion 2

Gavin Owen’s 18th minute strike kept Cerrig marginally in front before Iorwerth Jones settled it with a second after 90.

Penrhyncoch 2 Talysarn Celts 1

A great effort from tier 4 travellers Talysarn away to second-tier hosts Penrhyncoch.

Cameron Allen put the home side in front three minutes before half time, and there were no further goals till past the 90 when Daniel Owen made it 2-0 before sub Aaron Hughes instantly hit back for the visitors from the North Wales Coast West Premier.

FC Queen’s Park 1 Porthmadog 6

Danny Brookwell and Tom Hilditch both scored two apiece for rampant visitors Port, the latter’s brace including a penalty.

Sion Williams and Jack Gibney added further away goals, Liam Lawrence replying for a hard-working Park outfit.

St Asaph City 0 Llangollen Town 2

Second-half goals from Vinnie Cooke and Louie Middlehurst ensured impressive 2024-25 starters Llangollen advanced to round two of the national knockout.

Harri Williams was red-carded for Saints on 66 minutes.
