Women’s football is back at Colwyn Bay!

Colwyn Bay Football Club have formed a new women’s team.

Players from the current Llysfaen Lionesses will make up the new side which will be known as Colwyn Bay Ladies.

The Llysfaen Lionesses were formed in February 2018 and have played in the North Wales Women’s Recreational Football League.

The team wore the claret and sky blue shirts of Colwyn Bay when they played Eglwysbach in a friendly during Sunday’s Family Fun Day at the 4 Crosses Construction Arena.

It marks the retirn of a women’s team to Colwyn Bay FC. They will compete in the North Wales Recreational League.

The former Bay Ladies won back-to-back North Wales League and Cup doubles in 2006 and 2007.

Top players of that time included Gail Naylor-Jones, Sara Williams, Emma Fisher, Stacey Tradewell, goalkeeper Nathania Minard and Hayley Gibson, who is part of the 2024 team.

There were plans to reintroduce a Colwyn Bay women’s team in 2021. Their application to enter Tier 2 was successful, but the project never materialised.
