Ten interesting transfers on eve of 2024-25 season

Jamie McDaid has signed for Menai Bridge Tigers

Some exciting transfers on the eve of the 2024-25 North Wales football season.

Jamie McDaid (Llanrug United to Menai Bridge Tigers)

Menai Bridge have secured a big boost ahead of their first season as a Tier 3 side with the signing of prolific marksman Jamie McDaid.

The 30-year-old was top scorer in the Tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division last term with 47 league goals and 54 in all competitions for Llanrug United.

McDaid has also represented Bangor City in the Welsh Premier and Porthmadog and Caernarfon Town at Cymru North level.

Dion Donohue (Caernarfon Town to Trearddur Bay)

What a signing for Ardal North West newcomers Trearddur Bay!

The 30-year-old had spent the last three seasons at Caernarfon Town, where he was captain and made 73 appearances in all competitions, helping the Canaries reach Europe for the first time after winning the 2023-24 Cymru Premier play-off final against Penybont.

Dion, who began his career at Bodedern, was with Everton’s youth academy for six years. He represented Wales U18s and Welsh Colleges, as well as Ynys Môn at the Island Games.

The islander was part of Holyhead Hotspur and Caernarfon Town’s third-tier treble-winning squads of 2011-12 and 2012-13.

This led to several seasons as a pro, making a total of 117 Football League appearances across spells with Chesterfield, Portsmouth, Mansfield Town, Swindon Town and Barrow.

He returned to North Wales with Caernarfon Town in 2021-22.

Defender/midfielder Dion is a fantastic passer of the ball and deadly from set-pieces.

Harry Massey (Overton Recreational to Lex XI)

Massey scored 44 league goals last season in the North East Wales Championship Division and 52 in all competitions for Overton Recreational.

His stunning form attracted the attention of Premier Division Lex XI, for whom he scored on his debut against Penyffordd Lions in a 1-1 draw on July 23.

Nathan Mendoza (Caerwys to Mynydd Isa)

Attacking player who joins Isa from Caerwys, where he signed in March 2024 after the best part of two seasons with Mold Alexandra in the Cymru North.

Prior to that he was with North East Wales League side Rhydymwyn.

An exciting player with lots of pace and quality in the final third, Mendoza will add to Isa’s plethora of attacking options.

Harry George Massey (Conwy Borough to Mynydd Isa)

Rock solid 27-year-old defender joins Mynydd Isa from Conwy Borough, who he captained in Tier 3 last season, making 32 appearances.

The former Connah’s Quay Town and Rhydymwyn man has been immense so far at the back for new club Isa.

Tom Kemp (Prestatyn Town to CPD Y Rhyl 1879)

Experienced 29-year-old defender returns to Belle Vue.

Tom was with Everton as a youngster before signing for Prestatyn Town in 2012.

He represented the Seasiders in Europe, and in 2016-17 was part of the Town squad which lifted the Cymru Alliance championship.

Tom also played in the Welsh Premier for Prestatyn before switching to Flint Town United in 2018-19.

He celebrated promotion to the top-flight with the Silkmen, making 74 first team appearances in all for the club before deciding to drop three levels and join Prestatyn Sports in 2021-22.

The following season he put pen to paper for Tier 5 newcomers NFA, staying with the club until January 2023, when he signed for CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

Tom returned to NFA last summer, then rejoined Prestatyn Town in January 2024, helping them survive in the Cymru North before deciding to re-sign for Ardal North West club Rhyl 1879.

Osian Wyn Roberts (Llanfairfechan Town to CPD Y Rhyl 1879)

Excellent performances up front for Llanfairfechan Town last season have earned him a move to the Tier 3 Lilywhites.

Roberts, who can play as a left wing, right wing, striker, or central attacking midfielder, has previously played for Chester Youth, Colwyn Bay and Llanfairfechan, where he netted 13 first team goals last season, as well as eight for the development side.

Osian expressed his enthusiasm about joining Rhyl, saying: “I like the aspirations the club has to push up the tiers. I’m very excited to play for Rhyl. It’s a massive club that deserves to be higher up in the tiers.

I’m excited to push for the league this year and hopefully gain promotion into Tier 2, but also be competitive in the cups. I’m looking forward to getting to know the lads better and playing in front of the Lilywhites fans.”

Jamie Thomas (Nantlle Vale to Llangefni Town)

After three seasons with Nantlle Vale, defender Jamie, 21, has decided to sign for fellow Ardal North West club Llangefni.

Prior to joining Vale in 2021-22, the highly-regarded Thomas had spells with Caernarfon Town and Bangor 1876, so brings plenty of good level football experience to Cae Bob Parry.

Robbie Lee Williams (Guilsfield to Prestatyn Town)

Goalkeeper who joins Prestatyn after spending the past two seasons with Guilsfield in the Cymru North, making 85 appearances in all competitions for the Powys club.

Before that, the 22-year-old was on the books of Gresford Athletic and The New Saints, where he was a regular for the development team.

Matt Pleavin (Prestatyn Town to Ruthin Town)

Defender Pleavin signs for Cymru North side Ruthin after spending the second half of last season at Prestatyn Town, featuring in 12 games.

Previously, the 25-year-old turned out for Llangollen Town, Corwen, CPD Gronant, Rhyl Albion (then All Stars) and Gresford Athletic.
