It’s back to where it all began for one of North Wales’ top midfielders.

Ffion Owen has left Llandudno and signed for tier 3 hometown side Llangefni Town.

The 28-year-old got involved in football at a very young age, winning a national primary school competition with Ysgol Corn Hir in Llangefni.

She joined a boys’ team, Llangefni Under-9s, before stepping up to the mighty Llangefni Under-11 girls, landing three consecutive league titles and a host of cups and tournaments.

When she began playing adult football, Ffion maintained her links with the juniors as she coached Llangefni Under-14’s.

After taking a few years’ break, Ffion returned to playing, signing for Caernarfon Town in 2014.

She won the Betty Pickering Cup in 2015-16 before captaining the Canaries to a North Wales League championship and cup double in 2016-17, scoring 33 goals along the way.

Ffion captained Caernarfon on their return to the Welsh Premier in 2017-18, but the season went badly and the following campaign the team withdrew from the top flight.

Ffion’s career was given a big boost in 2019 when she featured in the Ynys Môn squad which won a silver medal at the Inter-Games on Anglesey.

A move to Amlwch Town in 2019-20 proved a resounding success with the islanders winning the North Wales League Division Two title. Ffion netted 19 goals in total during a much-shortened season due to Covid, making her Division Two’s top-scorer.

With the 2020-21 season scrapped due to the pandemic, Ffion moved to Llandudno in 2021-22 and spent the last three seasons at Maesdu Park, winning the Tier 2 Genero Adran North title twice.

Her record for the Seasiders was 29 goals in 67 appearances.

Now she returns home to Llangefni Town, aiming to win a league title with a fourth different club.

An energetic, hard-tackling, slick passing midfielder, Owen is also renowned for her shooting ability, many of her goals coming from long range.

Other Llangefni signings announced this week include Ceri Slaney, Lia Jones and Shauna Gray.

Slaney, 27, today, is another former Llangefni Girls player who has won league titles with Caernarfon Town, Amlwch Town and Llandudno.

Generally a winger, but adaptable to many positions, she also represented Ynys Môn in the 2019 Inter-Games.

Jones, 19, formerly played for CPDM Bangor under-19s and under-17s, while Gray, 23, was previously with Bethesda Athletic in their 2018-19 North Wales League Division Two title-winning campaign.
