North Wales interest in the 2024 Welsh Cricket Cup well and truly over

Divya Pratap Singh made a stubborn 44 for Llandudno in the Welsh Cup

North Wales hopes of retaining the Welsh Cricket Cup were shattered today as both Brymbo and Llandudno heavily lost their respective quarter-finals.

WELSH CRICKET CUP QUARTER-FINAL REPORTS – JULY 14

Llandudno 84-10 Newport 210-7

Llandudno were bowled out for just 84 in their pursuit of 211 to beat Newport at The Oval.

Having already knocked out St Asaph and Mochdre, North Wales League Premier Division strugglers Tudno had been this season’s Welsh Cup surprise packages, but they were no match for their South Wales rivals.

Put into bat, Newport posted 210-7 off 40 overs, skipper Mujeid Ilyas 42 and Tom Evans 41, Oliver Hughes claiming 2-28 from eight for the hosts.

Llandudno’s innings lasted just 24.4 overs, only Divya Pratap Singh making any impression with 44, Chris Hardy 2-4 and Ilyas 2-10 for the winners.

St Fagan’s 59-2 (6.5) Brymbo 58-10 (19.2)

Just 26.1 overs in total were needed to decide a one-sided quarter-final which saw Brymbo beaten out of sight.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, newly-crowned North Wales T20 champions the Steelmen were rolled over for just 58 in 19.2 overs.

Only Jason Underwood (28 not out) made any sort of impact for the visitors, with Ollie Sherwood collecting a remarkable 7-19 for the hosts.

St Fagan’s took just 41 balls to reach 59-2 in reply.

The four 2024 Welsh Cricket Cup semi-finalists are Newport, St Fagan’s, Pontarddulais and Pentyrch – all South Wales teams.
