Martin Green hit the track running at Bury in North Manchester to record a great new personal best time in his 3,000m race.
He finished in 4th place overall on a quality track versus class rivals in his T-8 event, race 2, with an impressive time of just 9 mins 33.43 seconds, whilst representing Welsh Masters.
Afterwards, Martin said he was pleased with his recent track racing progress: “We’ve been lucky with the weather this year which always helps.
“I’m hoping to get to another one somewhere to try and find just over three seconds and go sub 9:30. Nine seconds quicker in three weeks was all down to the confidence from the way the last one felt, so hopefully the next one can bring the same 9:33 for the second 3,000m of the season, a three-seconds PB.
“Really enjoyed the track this year. Now to put the extra 2k on to the road at the same pace.”
And it was a very good effort too from Martin’s colleague Will Williams in the 1,500m at Bury which was also part of the Trafford AC series, and he really had a go but gradually ran out of steam on the last lap after leading the race.
Afterwards, Will confirmed: “This was only my second ever 1,500m track race, so I can be forgiven for the complete blow up. I led for most of the race then my legs went big time on the last lap.”

Two Road Runners took to the hills, or rather to the mountain, to compete in the gruelling Scott Sports Snowdon Twilight race up Snowdon.
This was an extremely tough, challenging, but well-organised uphill race that started from the road opposite the Royal Victoria Hotel, and followed the Llanberis Path to the Summit of Snowdon.
Charlotte Rose Wilton Jones and Phil Moss competed well with Charlotte in 50th place overall out of 68 eventual finishers, and she was 17th female athlete and 6th in her F-Open age category with a good time of 1hr 12 mins and 43 secs.
Phil gave chase to Charlotte all the way, was 52nd overall and 4th in his VM60 age cat in 1hr 13mins 9 secs.
*The race winner was George Foster (Matlock AC) in a remarkable time of just 43 mins and 41 secs, with Lee Gratton (Scott Runners) 2nd in 45.56, and Rhys Jones (Rhedwyr Hebog Runners) 3rd in 46.32. The 1st female finisher was Sarah McCormack (Ambleside AC) in 49.19.
After the event, Charlotte said: “It was a race up to the summit of Snowdon and it was good practice ready for Ras Yr Wyddfra next month, which is a race both up and down Snowdon.”

Just over 200 entrants took part in a rather drizzly Conwy Parkrun on June 30 at the RSPB Nature Reserve, which again attracted a good number of tourists and visiting club and social runners from around the UK.
North Wales Road Runners only had seven members in action due to holidays and other commitments, but they still recorded three age victories and two second-place results.
Mark Jessett narrowly finished second overall, but certainly gave runaway leader Nathan Williams a strong challenge from the turn-around point, and in the end, he was just 10 seconds adrift.
Mark however, won his VM35 age cat in 18.22, with colleague Steve Mason running well in 4th place and 2nd VM45 in 19.52.
Steve Roberts finished well in 24th place overall in 22.36, and super-vet Sandy Johnson was back to his best with another fine performance in 23.39, finishing 33rd and 1st VM75.
Master vet Don Hale enjoyed an injury-free outing in 65th place, and he too won his VM70 cat in 26.20.
Fellow master Rob Fryer finished 2nd VM70 in 97th overall, in 28.23, and veteran John O’Shea was 127th in 29.31 and 4th VM65.
*The 1st finisher overall was Nathan Williams (Vale Royal AC) with a new PB of 18.12, with Mark Jessett (NWRRC) 2nd in 18.22, and Robert Norman (Telford AC) 3rd on his course debut in 19.13. The 1st female was debutant Alexandra Galloway, 34th overall in 23.44, and she won her VW45 cat, with Lizzie Irvine (GOG Triathlon) 2nd in 24,31 and 1st VW35 in 42nd place overall, whilst Katrina Wightman (Huncote Harriers) was 3rd female, 45th overall in 24.46, and 1st VW40.
*Praise was given to the run director Bethan Wyn Roberts, and to all the hard-working volunteers and marshalls, particularly on such a very wet morning. This is a link to the provisional results from Conwy: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/conwy/results/latestresults/
A quartet of talented Road Runners travelled to Llangefni on Anglesey to take part in the Nant y Pandy Parkrun and collected three age cat victories, plus a great new PB for Carla Green.
Carla was also 1st female finisher, finishing 6th overall, and won her VW50 age cat whilst recording an excellent PB time of 21.28.
Cheryl Frost was 15th overall and 3rd female, plus 1st VW55 on her course debut in 24.35. Fellow debutant Kay Hatton was 21st, 6th female and 1st VW60 in 25.30.
Elizabeth Driscoll finished well in 62nd place in 33.45 and 5th VW55.
Young Joe Culverhouse and father Stuart both won their respective age cats at the Pont y Bala Parkrun. Stuart finished 3rd overall in just 19 mins and 56 secs and was 1st VM50, with Joe top JM11-14 in 21.47.
Gethin Wyn Jones made his debut at the Soham Village College Parkrun, taking 3rd place overall with a steady run in 27.19.
