North Wales Road Runner Martin Green recorded an incredible personal best time (PB) at Wigan on Tuesday night in a high-quality 5k race,

Martin dipped just under 16 minutes for the very first time.

This event marked a fabulous performance from the train driver, who quickly hit top gear and accelerated away from the “Green” flag and burnt some rubber on the five-lap, Three Sisters go-cart track, to record an official time of 15 minutes 59 seconds.

It was a proud moment for the talented veteran athlete and marathon star, who later confirmed: “It was a “Fast 5k” event and included 5 x 1k laps, which was ideal. A PB, and my first time under 16 minutes.

Martin begins to work his way through the pack

“I was well chuffed to be honest, and it’s been a target for about four years, but I always just fell short.

“There were three races on the go-cart track in Wigan, with an A, B, and one for women. I was in the B, which was for sub 16.30 runners only, so a pretty good standard. There were about 25 runners in each race, and I was 4th in the B event.

“I would have been well down in the A race as they were true elites, and the winner was about 14.15 or something crackers.”
