Mynydd Isa have made some exciting new signings as they prepare for an assault on the Tier 4 North East Wales League Premier Division title this season.

Here is a rundown on the three new recruits so far – all of whom have Tier 2 experience – with the promise of more to come for the Flintshire club.

Tom Gunson

First signing of the summer for Mynydd Isa.

Split last term between Hawarden Rangers and Caerwys, whom he joined in February 2024 and scored four goals in the end-of-season run-in.

Was with Hawarden in 2022-23, netting 12 times for the club including six in the Tier 3 Ardal North West for the first team.

Prior to that had spells with Brymbo, Cefn Albion and Buckley Town.

Gunson hit the ground running for Mynydd Isa with a brace on his full debut in a pre-season friendly. Hopefully the first couple of many to come.

Dylan Roberts

Outstanding long-serving defender with Tier 2 Cymru North club Buckley Town, has decided to try a new challenge in 2024-25.

Roberts, 26, joined Bucks from New Brighton in July 2016 and has been an excellent left-back for the Stags.

Last season he helped the club reach the Welsh Cup quarter-finals for the first time.

Mynydd Isa’s management said in a statement: “We are thrilled to confirm the signing of Dylan Roberts from Buckley Town.

“During his 8 seasons at the Bucks he was regarded as one of the best full backs in the Cymru North and now rejoins the club he played for as a youth. A great coup for the club.”

Ste Hollyoak

Goalkeeper who has been superb in both friendlies so far and finally joins his older brother James at the club.

The 35-year-old counts Prestatyn Town, Hawarden Rangers, Mold Alex, FC Nomads and Saltney Town among his former clubs.

Mynydd Isa’s management said: “He has been superb in both friendlies so far and finally joins his older brother James at the club – welcome Ste.”
