Cricket: North Wales League Premier – leaders Mochdre whip Llandudno, Saints and Northop battle for wins

Half-centuries from 17-year-old James Gilman, skipper Joe Chaplin and Marcus Mangiameli ensured leaders Mochdre set an uncatchable score which spawned an eighth straight win and a 34-point lead at the Premier summit.

Visitors Llandudno, who had enjoyed a marvellous week with a first league win last Saturday and a superb Welsh Cup victory over St Asaph on Thursday, slipped back to the bottom of the table after a 14-1 defeat at their local rivals.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Mochdre posted a mighty 267-7 off their 50 overs, Gilman hitting 58, Chaplin 55 and Mangiameli 51.

Chapman, whose 55 came off 56 balls and included six fours and a six, and Gilman put on 102 for the fourth wicket.

Both Jamie Grimshaw and Divya Pratap Singh scooped 2-43 for Tudno.

The visitors were bowled out for 172 in response, skipper Matthew Lambe and Sam Rimmington both making 35 apiece, while Kai Page added 32.

Matty Humphreys was Mochdre’s leading bowler with 4-37 off 10, Mangiameli claimed 2-33 and Owen Davies 2-39.

Eight games, eight wins, 109 points out of a possible 120 – Michdre are looking like an unstoppable force so far this season.

St Asaph (12) 168-10 Bangor (3) 137-10

At 102-4 chasing 168 to win, things looked promising for Bangor at Elwy Park Grove, but then a batting collapse cost the visitors dear.

After calling the coin correctly, Saints chose to bat and were all out for 168 in 48 overs.

Two innings stood out, both at the top of the order. Number three Nathanael Scott struck a crucial 78, while opener Duncan Midgley made 30.

Smit Parekh took an excellent 3-13 off nine for the Citizens, who were without main strike bowler Owen Reilly. Joe Maltby bagged 3-34 and Franco Kasner 2-30.

Nadeem Rehman top-scored for Bangor with 43 and Kasner posted 25, but no-one else could make an impact as the visitors finished 137 all out.

Dan Evans grabbed 4-17 off nine and Robbie Prior 2-24 for second-place Saints.

Denbigh (4) 129-10 Northop (11) 130-8

A 38-run stand for the ninth wicket between Andrew Oates and Fabio Franco gor Northop over the line at Ystrad Road.

Sam Lewis was the only major contributor with 58 as Denbigh were dismissed for 129 after opting to bat.

Fabio Franco snared 3-23, Romano Franco, fresh from news of his Wales call-up, collected 3-28 off 10 with his left-arm spinners and Ashraf Nawab scooped 3-33.

In reply, Northop were in bother at 92-8, but Oates (26 not out) and Fabio Franco (6 no) guided them to 130-8 in the 43rd over.

Matthew Mullarkey earlier struck 29 for the away side, skipper Harrison Jones snapped up 4-19 off 10 for Denbigh, Alec Lewis 2-39.

Gresford (4) 89-10 Menai Bridge (11) 107-10

Spinner Dion Holden bowled a magical spell of 3-11 off 9.3 overs as Menai Bridge edged the verdict in a low-scoring affair at Clappers Lane.

Bridge decided to bat and could only muster 105 all out in 37.3 overs, Gethin Roberts best with 25, Simon Perry an excellent 4-11 off 9.3 for the hosts, Tom Crewe 2-14 and Daniel Williams 2-20.

Gresford collapsed to 89 all out in response, Holden 3-11 and Iwan Moore 2-12, Wes Evans 21 for the home team.

Gwersyllt Park (3) 177-10 Brymbo (12) 229-9

Vital knocks of 54 from Sam Aplin and Chris Taylor’s 48 made sure Brymbo posted a total good enough to win the game at Gwersyllt.

Electing to bat, the Steelmen registered 229-9 off 50 overs, George Deniz (27 not out), Connor Davies (27) and Jason Underwood (25) also making useful scores.

Iroshan De Silva took 4-38, Venumadhav Peram 3-20 and Neil Pearson 2-46 for the hosts.

Park were sent packing for 177, Jake James 36, Ryan Collier 30, Maneesha Nissanka 29 no and Lewis Cole 23, Davies pocketing 4-18, Sion Edwards 2-24 and Taylor 2-28 for the away team.
