CPD Llanfairpwll past met CPD Llanfairpwll present in a special football match in memory of a club legend.

Cofio Mumms was a combined fun day and football event held in tribute to the great Alun Mummery, long-serving secretary and friend of Llanfairpwll FC.

Money was raised on the day for the Young Lives v Cancer charity.

The late, great Alun Mummery

Popularly known as Mr Llanfairpwll, Alun passed away in December 2022 at the age of 80.

The numerous years he dedicated to local football received special recognition in 2012 with the Welsh Football Trust’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

A community councillor for more than half a century, Alun also served as a county councillor for Llanfairpwll, Menai Bridge, Star and Penmynydd. He represented Plaid Cymru on Anglesey County Council’s Aethwy ward.

Alun’s dedication to football won him friends and admirers far and wide and there was a magical atmosphere at Maes Eilian on Saturday.

The score in the game was 4-1 to the former players side with their goals coming from Osian Jones (2), Gaz Wyn Roberts and Jason Harvey (pen). The current Llanfairpwll scorer was Marquis Holland.

An evening event was a success also with Elin Fflur, Y Moniars and Dafydd Iwan performing at Carreg Bran while Kev Bach was the compere.

He was not just a football legend – Alun Mummery was an Ynys Môn legend.

Gorffwys mewn heddwch – rest in peace. You will never be forgotten.
