Midweek football: Bontnewydd lift cup, Amlwch denied first league win at the death
CPD Bontnewydd secured the first half of what they hope will be a league and cup double on Wednesday night.
The Caernarfon area side defeated CPD Gaerwen of Anglesey 5-3 in the North Wales Coast West League Division One Cup final at Cemaes Bay.
Bont raced into a 3-0 lead within the first half hour, Alex Kalafusz netting on seven minutes, captain Luke Phillips after 12 and former Cymru Premier star Clive Williams with 30 gone.
Gwion Parry hit back for Gaerwen on 36, but the islanders were reduced to 10 men just before the break when Leon Owen was shown a straight red card.
Despite being at a disadvantage personnel-wise, the Auctioneers put up a great battle in the second half and cut the arrears to 3-2 when Nathan Moore netted on 73 minutes.
Sub Shaun Roberts soon notched number four for Bont, but Callum Hughes kept it close with Gaerwen’s third on 82.
It needed an 87th minute second from Roberts to see Bontnewydd to victory.
Bont are top of Division One and vying with Llanystumdwy for the title.
They are due to take on ‘Stumdwy away in their final league game of the season on May 24.

Ben Davies (2) and Rhys Hughes were on target for second-place Bow who remain on course to finish runners-up.
However, they are not contenders for promotion to the Cymru North as they withdrew their application for a Tier 2 licence.
Daniel Hall replied for Builth, who had goalkeeper Kham Steventon dismissed for a second yellow on 22 minutes.
Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 1 Llangollen Town 2
Ben Wilson‘s net-finder and a Thomas Williams own goal were enough to earn the points for Llangollen, who had Callum Roberts red-carded on 54 minutes but held on with 10 men for victory.
Billy Clarke supplied Llanrhaeadr’s consolation goal.
CPD Rhos Aelwyd 0 Cefn Albion 2
Conner Kendrick and Nic Jones notched the first-half goals which secured a good three points for Albion from Wednesday’s Wrexham-area derby.
Cefn manager Sean Jones was shown a red card in the 78th minute.
ARDAL NORTH WEST LEAGUE
Brickfield Rangers 2 Hawarden Rangers 1
Sub Noah Sumner’s 95th minute winner ensured Hawarden finish in the bottom two.
Andy Vale put Brickfield ahead on 52, James Ratcliffe levelled on 68, but the 18-year-old Sumner’s decider ended Hawarden’s league campaign on a sad note.
Llanrwst United 1 Llangefni Town 2
Net-ripplers from captain Jack Williams and Osian Jones a minute apart in the second half made sure Llangefni enjoyed a victorious end to their league fixtures.
Llanrwst had taken an early lead throyugh player-manager Leighton Griffiths, who was later red-carded with 73 played.
Nantlle Vale 2 CPD Y Felinheli 1
Cian Pritchard’s double won the day for Nantlle, the result damaging the survival prospects of Y Felinheli, who replied through Iwan Owen.
Saltney Town 1 Conwy Borough 1
All-square at the Dragon Steel Stadium with Rowan Burdsall giving bottom side Saltney a first-half lead, Jacob Guy levelling on 77 after Toby Jones had missed a penalty.

Jenson Wold’s 91st minute strike won this close contest for Bow Reserves.
Wold also netted in the first half, while Joshua Lally converted a penalty for the hosts, Ethan Kiernan and Padrig Hickey hitting back for Llanrug.
TUESDAY, MAY 7
FAW RESERVE LEAGUE NORTH CUP
The New Saints Reserves 4 Chirk AAA Reserves 4 (TNS won 5-4 pens)
A cracking semi final ended with TNS going through on penalties.
TNS had raced into a 2-0 lead courtesy of Joel Gardner and Greg Draper, but Chirk pulled it back before the break through captain Phil Pearce and Toby Nash.
Chirk took the lead on 53 though a Harry Clayton own goal but two defensive mistakes in the space of a couple of minutes just before the hour gave the home side the initiative with goals from substitute Cian Mcintosh and Josh Davies-Sewell.
Chirk battled back and equalised in the last minute through Brad Pearce.
So to penalties it went and it was TNS who advanced to the final where they face either Llandudno or Nantlle Vale.
FAW RESERVE LEAGUE NORTH TIER 1-2

Ifan Jones’ 94th minute finish won the match for Mold, who had levelled as late as the 86th via a Jacob Melo-Farina penalty.
Evan Lowry had handed Bucks a 34th minute lead.
Connah’s Quay Nomads U-21s 3 Holywell Town Development 2
Quay edged past Holywell to maintain a three-point lead over The New Saints at the summit.
A point from their final game at home to Debigh Town Reserves on Saturday will clinch the Deesiders the title.
Even a loss might not stop them becoming champions as Nomads have a vastly superior goal difference to Saints.
Goals from Tyler Berry (2) and Jayden Tang clinched the win over Holywell, who responded through Ben Pearce and Isaac Adams Goundrey.

A seven-goal cracker ended up in Isa’s favour, Harry Lambert, Jay Wiles, Shaun Tinsley and Simon Moffatt their marksmen, Ryan Jones (2, 1 pen) and Lewis Williams on the scoresheet for Greenfield, who had Connor Hughes red-carded on 59 minutes with the score at 2-1 to the away side.

Jonny Cyster’s 94th minute equaliser for Llanberis denied Amlwch what would have been a first league win of the season

Tomos Hughes struck twice deep into stoppage time to earn Glantraeth a fifth straight victory.
Will Hughes was also on target for the hosts. who trailed 2-0 to goals from Connor Owen (pen) and Gwion Thomas.

Luke Baum scored twice in the second half, one from the penalty spot, to seal a good win for Celts, Joshua Williams their earlier marksman while Gafyn Buckland found the net for Llan.

Prestatyn Wanderers 1 CPD Y Glannau 9
Third-place Glannau ended their league campaign with another glut of goals, leading marksman Harrison Bellis pocketing five to move up to 68 for the season.
In their 20th and final league match of 2023-24, the St Asaph-based visitors passed the 100 goals mark.
Josh MacGillivray (2), Luke Stanley and Matthew Edge provided the rest for the visitors, Alex Garratt Wanderers’ sole marksman.
