Holywell Town insist a setback which could cost them their Tier 2 status is in hand.
Yesterday, the FAW announced the Cymru North champions’ first application for a second-tier licence had been refused.
The Flintshire club later released this statement: “Today, the FAW announced that our first application for a Tier 2 licence has been refused. This is down to an anomaly with a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service), in which we have started the process of rectification.
“We have engaged the FAW this afternoon and are ahead in the process of the 10 day appeal deadline.”
When Town lifted the Cymru North title last month it was the most prestigious prize in their proud history.
The Wellmen won 26 of their 30 fixtures and lost just once, conceding only 17 goals over the campaign.
Unfortunately Holywell were unable to go up to the Cymru Premier as they did not secure the mandatory Tier 1 licence.
The club recently appealed for new investment to help it move forward towards that next step of top-flight football.
