Rob Hughes was a hat-trick hero as Flint Mountain went top of the Ardal North West, ending CPD Y Rhyl 1879’s six-month grip on the summit.
Hughes, the former Connah’s Quay Nomads, Prestatyn Town, Flint Town United, Caernarfon Town and Rhyl FC player, who joined Mountain in September, took his goals total for his new club to 14 with Wednesday’s terrific treble at Y Morfa.
Aden Shannon’s side edged ahead on 27 minutes when Hughes scored with a scissor kick.
Just before the break it was 2-0 when Jack Sconce drilled a low shot through a ruck of defenders into the bottom corner.
Hughes added a third for the travellers with a free kick strike on 58 before captain Harry Massey pulled one back for Conwy after 63.
In the 75th minute, Hughes completed his trio of net-finders. Lloyd Ellams played the ball down the right to Hughes, who controlled superbly, cutting inside and taking on three Conwy players before burying a shot past the goalkeeper.
Mountain added a fifth in the 89th minute. Calyn Spencer’s cross-shot was saved by the goalkeeper but Joe Holt was on hand to tap into the net.
A tremendous win for Y Felinheli against an in-form Bethesda lifted Euron Davies’ side out of the bottom two.
Gruff John made it 1-0 on 16 minutes and sub Gavin Lloyd Jones, a replacement for the injured John, added a second for the hosts after 39 from a Jack Cain assist.
Osian Hughes’ penalty pulled one back for Pesda seven minutes into the second half, before a Iwan Edwards spot-kick with 59 gone put Felin 3-1 up.
Noa Hughes cut the arrears to 3-2 before Athletic had Robbie Jones dismissed for a second yellow card on 81.
A home victory was sealed seven minutes into stoppage time when Cal MacDonald put away Felin’s fourth.
Hawarden’s relegation fears increased after they went down narrowly at home to Gareth Wilson’s Brickfield outfit.
Noah Sumner handed the visitors a second-minute lead and there was a long goalless spell before Andy Vale doubled the away advantage on 76 with his 17th of the season.
Andrew Watkin replied for Hawarden six minutes into added time, but it was a mere consolation for the next-to-bottom team.
Vale strengthened their grip on fifth spot by seeing off the challenge of Anglesey visitors Llangefni.
Ashley Owen produced both home goals, a 21st minute penalty and another strike on 90+3 to lift his season’s haul to 21, 19 of them in the league.
