Ricky Evans was a hat-trick hero on the day Llay Welfare Vets rounded off their championship-winning campaign by preserving their season-long unbeaten record.
In his first season as manager, Jonny Taylor has led the team to the North East Wales Veterans League Championship title with a record of 10 wins and 2 draws in 12 games.
They rounded things off on Sunday in a festive atmosphere at The Ring, Llay, with a 5-2 victory against White Bear Vets.
The visitors started really well, Ryan Dunn scoring in the first minute before Anthony Turton added a second with just three on the clock.
Champagne gone flat? Far too early.
Ricky Evans made it 2-1 after 15 and added another with 37 gone.
Half time 2-2 and Welly took control in the second half.
Matthew Davies put the hosts 3-2 up on the hour, then a minute later Keith Evans added a fourth.
The mercurial Ricky Evans, now 47 but still turning on the magic for Lex on Saturday and Llay Vets on Sundays, rounded off the goals by scoring Welly’s fifth on 89.
That was Ricky’s 10th league goal of the season, making him Welfare’s top scorer in the Championship.
