It was not to be for Kinmel Bay Under-15s today as they lost 4-0 to Cardiff Wanderers U16 Reds in the Bute Energy Under-16 Girls Welsh Cup Final at Latham Park, Newtown.
After a fantastic run to the final, the treble-chasers had high hopes of becoming just the fourth North Wales team to lift the U16 national cup.
It was 0-0 until the sixth minute of added-on time in the first half when Alys Wilson broke the deadlock for Cardiff.
Two goals early in the second half ensured Wanderers had one hand firmly on the trophy, Jaymie-rose Powell netting them both.
And the contest was over when Wilson scored her second with 71 gone.
Despite today’s disappointment, Kinmel Bay still have the North Wales League title and League Cup to go for, matches against Cemaes Bay and potentially Penrhyn Bay twice over the next few days standing in their way.
Whatever happens, these Kinmel Bay girls have done North Wales immensely proud with their heroic performances this season.
