Report – REM Jones Cup final: Bow lift their first trophy

NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE REM JONES CUP FINAL
Bow 1 (Sim 63)
Llandudno Amateurs 0
Former Rhyl 1879 midfielder Dan Sim’s 63rd minute goal was enough to secure a first Saturday football trophy for Bow.
In a windswept affair at Llansannan between the top two teams in North Wales Coast East Division One, Bow’s recent signing settled the encounter with a fine volleyed finish from a free kick.
Bow began on the front foot, playing some lovely football through the midfield of Sim and Aaron Boyle.
The latter was feeding some sublime balls through to Loui O’Carroll and Joe Carey on the wings that were causing the Amateurs defence trouble early on.
In the 10th minute a shot from Bow’s Kieran Ellis was well saved by Gary Mellor.
With the wind in Bow’s favour, they camped inside Amateurs territory in the first half, Carey, Rob Parry and Ellis all testing Mellor, who was having a great game.
When Amateurs did get the ball they moved upfield using their talisman Azz Rogers in the middle. His fine deliveries were picking out strikers Mike Chapman and Morgan Davies, whose efforts were off target.
On the half-hour, O’Carroll’s superb free kick cannoned off the post.
Bow were denied a penalty after what appeared to be a blatant handball before Ste Middleman’s header was cleared off the line.
Just before half-time, Boyle hit a fantastic shot that was going into the top corner but again Mellor pulled off another impressive save.
HALF-TIME: 0-0
The Amateurs tried to use the wind to their advantage after the break, but the Bow defence coped with everything.
Bow brought on Kyle Robb and Greg Hall and these two made an instant impact. Robb left his defender standing and tested Mellor with another good strike.
Then came the breakthrough. A free kick in a dangerous position saw Parry loft a brilliant ball into the box which Sim met with a sweet volley that nestled in the top corner.
Soon after Mellor saved well again from a Parry free kick.
Llandudno tried to rally, Joe Jones’ free kick kept out smartly by Richard Hillier-Evans.
Amateurs’ last effort saw a long throw into the box caught well under pressure by Hillier-Evans, who cleared the ball upfield and the final whistle sounded on a memorable success for Bow FC,
