JD CYMRU NORTH – MARCH 16

Chirk AAA 3 (Herbert 35, Mclaughlin 41 & 71)
Llandudno 2 (Bennett 48 & 84)

The upsetters became the upsetted on Saturday as Llandudno crashed 3-2 at relegated Chirk.

While Tudno have put a few noses out of joint in recent games, they were the victims of a surprise outcome at Holyhead Road as the Colliers claimed their first victory in 22 league attempts.

Since beating Llanidloes Town 2-0 back in August, Chirk had not won in 21 matches, losing 19 and drawing two, but some of their performances along the way haD been encouraging and against the Seasiders they turned promise into points.

Just a second league success of the season for the reds was overall well-deserved after a battling display.

Llandudno started well and it took a great save from Chirk’s on loan keeper Jack Edwards after 15 minutes to keep the home side level.

Chirk began to dominate and the impressive Steff Rogers set up Jac Herbert on 35 minutes to put the hosts ahead.

It was no more than The Colliers had merited, with Herbert, Rogers, Josh Evans and Spencer Parrish dominating the midfield.

And on 41 minutes Chirk increased their lead through leading scorer Max Mclaughlin after great work from Evans on the right.

Llandudno came out fighting in the second period and the impressive youngster Harvey Bennett pulled one back on 48 minutes after a through ball from Ethan Roberts.

Chirk were stunned but battled hard to hold onto the lead and gradually regained their composure. In the 71st minute their leading hitman Mclaughlin scored a stunning goal to put his side 3-1 ahead.

Again Llandudno rallied and made it 3-2 with 6 minutes left on the clock, again through Bennett.

But Chirk held on for the spoils to give their loyal supporters a welcome boost.
