The North East Wales League Two Counties Cup semi final between Acton and Rhydymwyn, decided on a thrilling penalty shoot-out, will have to be replayed.
The reason? The competition rules were not followed.
After Saturday’s match at Rhosnesni High School ended 2-2, an added half-hour of extra time should have been played.
Instead, the game went straight to penalties with Acton winning 9-8, keeper Fin Wilson converting his team’s ninth kick before then saving Rhydymwyn’s ninth to clinch the win.
However, NEWFA general secretary Dave Fawkes said the teams will have to do it all over again as the correct rules were not followed.
Asked who was to blame for the situation, Mr Fawkes said: “All parties, as there was no objection from either team on the day. The Ref should know the rules of the competition, though.”
A new date will now need to be found for the replayed semi with Aston Park Rangers awaiting in the final.
