Eight years ago this Valentine’s Day, Llandudno ladies took another major step forward in their greatest cup adventure.
Sarah Colville’s side faced a long trip down south to take on fellow Welsh Premier side Cwmbran Celtic in a Welsh Cup quarter-final.
The hosts grabbed a sixth minute lead through North Wales girl Lois Regan, a Wales international who began her football at Llewod Llanrug.
And for a long time it looked like that might be enough, until set-piece specialist Katie Bowe levelled in the 72nd minute with a fierce strike for her 10th goal of an amazing season where she eventually finished team top-scorer on 21.
Eight minutes later, Wales under-19 international Kelsey Davies bagged the winner via a magnificent side-foot lob.
Llandudno had reached the Welsh Cup semi-finals for the first time in their history, and would go on to defeat Denbigh Town 4-0.
The final proved one step too far, as Tudno were beaten 5-2 at Latham Park, Newtown, by mighty Cardiff City FC Women.
Remarkably, the team eliminated by Llandudno on Valentine’s Day 2016, Cwmbran Celtic, would later get a double dose of revenge on the North Walians before the end of the season.
In two WPWL meetings, Celtic triumphed 10-3 at Maesdu Park, Bowe netting a hat-trick for the hosts all in vain, and 7-1 in the home return on the final day of the campaign.
But on February 14, 2016, Llandudno were celebrating one of their finest-ever results.
