Llanuwchllyn clinched a home FAW Amateur Trophy quarter-final meeting with Cefn Cribwr after edging past fellow Ardal North East side Bow Street on penalties.
In a fiery start to Saturday’s last 16 tie, Bow applied plenty of pressure but Llan went close twice through Meilir Williams and Steffan Dolben with shots that flew inches past the post.
The hosts made the breakthrough on 29 minutes when great work from Warren Aykroyd-Duckett on the left saw him cross for captain Garmon Hafal to apply a clinical finish.
Llan were relieved to see a penalty decision against them reversed before the break after the referee consulted with an assistant.
The home side were really up against it midway through the second half when Mike Pritchard was red-carded.
Nonetheless, Llan held on until the 91st minute, when Rhys Hughes equalised for Bow to force a shoot-out.
Ceri James, Nathan Davies and Sam Evans converted penalties for Llanuwchllyn, while Bow scored just once, home keeper Rob Dascalu producing some heroics to ensure the hosts went through.
No joy for Ardal North East side Builth Wells, who were eliminated at Ardal South West outfit Seven Sisters.
Tommy Rowlands and Jamie Evans notched consolation goals for the visitors, who had Danny Ives dismissed for a second yellow on 58 minutes.

Veteran marksman Geoff Kellaway’s 77th minute winner bagged a huge three points for leaders Penrhyncoch at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium in Broughton.
Albion needed a win to stay in touch with the Roosters, but now trail the table-toppers by 11 points although they do have three games in hand.
In an even, competitive first half where both sides had chances, Isaac Pridmore edged Penrhyn in front on 41 minutes, but Josh Astley levelled almost instantly.
The second half was mainly all about Albion attacking, but the goals would not come and from a rare thrust forward of their own, the ever-deadly Kellaway knocked in the decider.
Gerwyn Williams (2, 1 penalty) and Wiliam Gruffydd secured another great three points for fourth-place Dolgellau.
League top-scorer Williams’ double put him on 21 goals in Ardal NE.
Tomas Davies’ 83rd minute equaliser salvaged a point for Penycae.
Garmon Evans had earlier converted a 48th minute penalty for Llanrhaeadr, who had David France sent off for two yellows on 55.
Cracking result for Llangollen at second-place Radnor, who suffered a third straight loss.
William Cooke netted the first two for the visitors on 13 and 23, Jack Maybury making the points safe with a third on 72.
Tim Office was shown a red card on 58 for the hosts.
Goals from Thomas Durant and Kieran McCarley won the game for Wells, Sam Baldam with a stoppage time consolation for Rhos.
Karl Seliaerts cinched the spoils for Llanfair with a 14th minute penalty.
