Hosts Bay fell to only their second defeat of the season at the hands of a very strong Pen side who have now done the double over Kinmel this term.
Phoenix were also 4-2 winners over the current league leaders back in September, but despite Sunday’s result Bay still lead the table by three points from Pen, who have a game in hand.
Morgan Roberts opened the scoring for Pen after 28 minutes, finishing inside a busy penalty area.
After 33 minutes it was level as Bay were awarded a penalty for handball in the box and the spot kick was converted by Mark Hughes.
Two minutes later Pen scored a second when a free kick was crossed into the box and veteran Michael Lundstram finished.
HT Bay 1-2 Pen
Into the second half and both teams made changes.
It was Bay substitute Sam Meredith who scored the fourth goal of the game on 67 minutes, tapping in a rebound from a good save by the Pen keeper. Into the last 20 minutes it was 2-2 with all to play for.
On 72 minutes Morgan Roberts scored his second using the wind to his advantage, lobbing a 40 yard effort over the Bay goalkeeper to make it 3-2 to Pen.
Phoenix weren’t done there and on 83 minutes Corey Lundstram beat the Bay’s high line, ran through 1v1 with the keeper and took the ball round him to finish into a empty net.
On 89 minutes Morgan Roberts was shown a second yellow for Pen for time wasting but that didn’t stop Phoenix grabbing a fifth.
When a ball was played back to Bay’s keeper he slipped and consequently handled the ball resulting in an indirect free kick eight yards out.
The ball was played to substitute Cody Williams who smashed it home to seal the game for Pen
