Adran Trophy row – Felinheli progress to quarter-finals, Barry Town United thrown out

Cae Seilo, Felinheli, was passed fit by the referee to stage a Genero Adran Trophy tie on December 10. Visitors Barry Town United Women refused to play and have now been expelled from the competition

CPDM Y Felinheli have automatically qualified for the quarter-finals of the national Genero Adran Trophy after their previous round opponents were found guilty of failing to fulfill their obligation to play the tie.

Genero Adran North club Felin were set to host Barry Town United of the Adran Premier at Cae Seilo on December 10.

The pitch was passed fit by the referee, but Barry disagreed with the decision, refused to play and boarded their bus back to South Wales.

The matter was referred to the FAW, who discussed the matter yesterday and released the following statement today.

“On Thursday 4 January, a Disciplinary Sub-Committee of the Football Association of Wales met to consider:the charge against Barry Town United Women FC for the Disciplinary Offence as set out under Rule 13 of the Genero Adran Trophy for failing to fulfil an engagement to play its Genero Adran Trophy knock-out stage match on the appointed date or causing a game to be abandoned without giving a reason deemed to be satisfactory by the Board.

“The charge was related to the Genero Adran Trophy Round of 16 tie against CPDM Y Felinheli on Sunday 10 December 2023.

“The Disciplinary Sub-Committee found the charge to be proven. As a result, Barry Town United Women FC are removed from the 2023/24 Genero Adran Trophy and shall be fined £150.

“CPDM Y Felinheli will play Aberystwyth Town FC in the quarter-finals of the 2023/24 Genero Adran Trophy on a later date to be confirmed in due course.

“Barry Town United Women FC may refer the matter to an Appeals Sub-Committee of the Football Association of Wales. Written notice of such a course of action must state the grounds of appeal and be submitted to FAW no later than 4.30pm on Monday 15 January 2023.”

The issue of whether the pitch was fit or not has been the subject of a lively discussion on social media this week, but the final decision on the next course of action rested with the FAW.
