Rosie Hughes has scored 100 goals for Wrexham – here’s a look at her time with the club so far

Rosie Hughes reached the 100 goals mark for Wrexham AFC Women at the weekend in just her 46th appearance for the club.

The 27-year-old is proving this season that she is not just a lower-level wonder when it comes to net-finding.

Since stepping up to the Tier 1 Adran Premier with the Red Dragons, the prison officer has found no bars to unlocking defences.

Hughes is currently Adran Premier top-scorer with nine goals and has 10 overall in seven matches during 2023-24.

The former Colwyn Bay, Kinmel Bay, Denbigh Town and Llandudno striker, who gained previous Welsh Premier experience with the Seasiders, signed for Wrexham at the start of 2021-22.

She notched a hat-trick on debut against Pwllheli and went on to score 48 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions that season.

Hughes banged in 36 in the league, but Wrexham had to be content with runners-up spot in Tier 2 Genero Adran North.

More than half of the striker’s total goals – 28 in all – that season came against two considerably weaker opponents in Denbigh Town and Llanfair United.

The 2022-23 season was to be much more successful for Steve Dale’s side, who won the Genero Adran North title and secured promotion to the Adran Premier via a play-off against Briton Ferry Llansawel.

Hughes added another 42 goals to her tally – 22 in the league.

She also began to show a flair for punishing higher-ranked teams, hitting six in the Adran Trophy against top-flight Abergavenny and netting in a Welsh Cup victory over The New Saints.

Hughes took star billing as Wrexham’s women made many headlines alongside the men’s team, who won the National League crown and secured a return to the Football League after a 15-year absence.

The club’s resources had been majorly boosted by the backing of Hollywood greats Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham-mania was in the air far and wide.

The women’s team have earned high praise from the famous pair, as well as widespread media coverage, with Hughes more often than not at the forefront.

Wrexham’s females have been on the crest of a wave for many months now and are showing no signs of flagging as they sit third in the Adran Premier following a flying start to the 2023-24 campaign.

Hughes’ goal – a magnificent 25-yard strike and surely one of her best – in a 3-1 win over The New Saints on Sunday marked the latest milestone in her career as she reached 100 for the club in just 46 matches. Carra Jones also scored twice in the sinking of Saints.

For Rosie Hughes the fairy tale goes on. Right now, there seems no limit to what she can achieve.
